The Death of Kurisu Makise[]

Mayuri wins a Metal Upa

Okabe gives Mayuri the metal Upa.

Ep01 - mayuri and okabe

Okabe and Mayuri arrive at the Radio Building.

In order to gather additional units for his college course, Rintaro attends a seminar being taught by Dr. Nakabachi about the fundamental theory behind creating a time machine held at Akihabara Radio Kaikan. He arrives early with Mayuri, and upon entering the room of the lecture, the building is seemingly shaken by an earthquake. He runs upstairs and finds a satellite on the roof of the building, but is quickly told not to worry by the person standing beside it. He then gets a text message from Mayuri and goes down to a lower floor where she is trying to buy an Upa toy from the coin machine. He ends up buying one just to show off, but is suprised when its revealed to be made of metal. Mayuri tells him that it is rare and he ends up giving it to her.

Rintaro Okabe on the phone

As Shouichi begins his seminar, Rintaro, a staunch believer of time machines, recognizes the core material on which the professor speaks and makes a commotion, accusing the professor of having plagiarized the idea from John Titor, who spoke of this theory 10 years prior. He is pulled out of the seminar and meets Makise Kurisu for the first time, though she insists on having seen him just 15 minutes ago. Okabe has no idea what she is talking about and tries to escape the conversation by talking into his phone, but Kurisu snatches the phone away, revealing that it is off. After lying about the phone turning itself off when she grabbed it, Okabe takes his phone back and runs away. He then receives a message, but it comes through as all static, so he ignores it.

Kurisu lying dead

Okabe finds Kurisu's body.

Afterward, Rintaro talks to Mayuri about her Metal Upa which she lost, before they hear a scream come from upstairs. Rintaro rushes to the source of the sound to investigate and finds the body of Kurisu Makise in a pool of blood.

Rintaro is so shaken by the incident that he is unable to even call the police and simply leaves along with Mayuri. He contacts his friend Itaru about it through a text message. Immediately after sending the text, the people in the street all disappear, and the satellite he saw earlier appears to have crashed into the roof of the Radio Tower.

He questions Mayuri about the apparent disappearance of the pedestrians, who seems to not have noticed. Later, when he returns to the lab, he bumps into Suzuha Amane, who is quickly hired by Mr. Braun, Okabe's landlord, at the CRT store beneath the lab. Okabe later discovers that Itaru received the message, though 5 days earlier and broken into 3 messages, and that Shouichi Makise's lecture was canceled.

Okabe confronts Kurisu

Okabe confronting Kurisu.

While attending a lecture for credits that afternoon, he meets a perfectly unharmed Kurisu Makise. After that, he is in a state of shock, frequently touching Kurisu to verify that she is real, leading her to accuse him of sexual harassment. It was then that he realized that this was the real Kurisu. The girl ends up giving an lecture on time travel where she starts off by claiming its impossibility. This angers Okabe who goes on to challenge her claims. She welcomes the challenge and the two debate on the plausibiity of time travel, but Okabe is unable to counter her points.

John Titor and Future Gadget #8[]

Although he was certain that the events that he experienced did happen, he double-checks the occurrences on the Internet, coming up with the confirmation of what Itaru has told him. He would soon stumble upon John Titor, a so called time traveller famous for his discussions of the world in the year 2036, which sparked his interest in knowing more about John Titor and his ideas about time travel.

Shortly after agreeing to let Kurisu join his lab (due to her curiosity about the experiment that Okabe and Daru are doing with the PhoneWave (name subject to change)), Okabe soon realizes that the PhoneWave (name subject to change) is in reality a time machine. With the help of Kurisu, Okabe starts doing experiments with the PhoneWave (name subject to change) by using D-Mails (short for DeLorean Mail).

SERN and the IBN 5100[]

Moeka's first appearance

After stumbling upon Moeka, a shy woman that only communicates by her phone, on the street of Akihabara, Okabe learns about the IBN 5100, an old and exceedingly rare PC that might be in Akihabara. Okabe also has Daru hack into SERN to find out some info related to the time machine. To his shock, SERN has been researching the time machine and already succeeded in making one. However, SERN did 14 experiments on humans, called the "Z-Program" and all humans that have been experimented on have already died and turned into a gel-like state, and were found in different places in the past. Daru found an unknown database of SERN which even Daru cannot crack. Okabe decides to ask Titor about the code and finds out that he needs the IBN 5100 in order to access SERN's secrets. Okabe starts searching for it and finds out that Faris' father once possessed one. He asks her about it, but she only agrees to tell him if he participates in a RaiNet battle against her. Okabe agrees and ends the game quickly by going for a suicide attack. Faris then reveals that the IBN was donated to the Yanabayashi shrine.

Kurisu carrying IBN 5100

Kurisu and Okabe carrying the INB back to the lab.

He ultimately finds it at the Yanabayashi shrine and brings it back to the lab. In the anime, he brings it back with Kurisu's help but in the visual novel the player can choose whether to ask for Luka's help (by ignoring a phone call) or Kurisu's (by picking up a phone call). Both assistants struggle while trying to carry it back to the lab, though Luka becomes grateful to Okabe that he was able to be of use when they arrive at the lab.

D-Mails and Reading Steiner[]

Okabe starts doing experiments with the PhoneWave (name subject to change) by trying to send text messages (D-Mails) to the past. Through repeated experiemts, much to Mr. Braun's chagrin, the group learns that they can only send messages back in time during a specific time of the day (10am to 6pm). Okabe then decides that they should send D-Mails with the intent of changing the past and the group agrees to send back the numbers of a winning lottery numbers, however, hesitant to get unwanted attention by winning first place, they settle for third instead. They send the D-Mail and Okabe is suddently hit with a sense of dizziness. When the dizziness fades away, he realizes that everyone in the lab has changed positions. He asks what happened with the lottery numbers, but everyne is confused at what he's talking about. Luka then arrives and reveals that a week prior, Okabe had given him the lottery numbers, but because Luka had written them down incorrectly, they did not win. Regardless, it showed Okabe that the PhoneWave could actually change the past.

Realizing that he is the only one who seemed to realize that anything had changed, Okabe exchanges messages with John Titor, and learns about worldlines and Attractor Fields and that he has a special ability, which he can retain memories from before the worldline changes. He decides to call that ability Reading Steiner.

Rounders' Attack[]

The group continues with experimenting with the machine. In the meantime, Kurisu is also working on the Time Leap Machine, a modified version of the PhoneWave (name subject to change) that can send the user's memory to the past. Also, Okabe has been receiving threat mails from an unknown person, attached with gruesome images.

The lab mems about to send Moeka's d-mail

Moeka stops by the lab in order to see the IBN and Okabe lets her inside, revealing that he got it from the shrine. Later on, the other lab mems, not realizing that she was there, begin to talk about the time machine as they enter, which Moeka overhears. Not wanting their secret to get out, Okabe dubs Moeka as Lab Mem #5. They then begin experimenting with the PhoneWave with Moeka offering to be the test subject, claiming that she wants to send herself a D-Mail to get a new phone. After sending the D-Mail, Reading Steiner Activates and Okabe realizes that Moeka is gone and no one remembers her at all. He later asks Daru how hacking into SERN is going, only for Daru to reveal that they never found an IBN. Okabe goes ot the shrine to locate it, but it is revealed to have been stolen.

Later, Luka appears at the lab, revealing that he had overheard their discussion about the time machine and wanted to use it to be born female. In the visual novel however, it is Okabe who wants to use him as a guinea pig and make him send a D-Mail, Luka not having overheard anything as opposed to the anime. The lab agrees to help him as Okabe dubs him Lab Mem #6. After figuring out how to send the message to Luka's mother's pager, they send the D-Mail and Reading Steiner activates. Okabe sees Luka sitting with Mayuri, does not see any physical changes, and assumes that it did not work.

At MayQueen+Nyan², Okabe and Daru discuss the time machine, but Faris overhears them. Okabe tries to stay discreet, but Daru admits to the time machine. Faris agrees to keep the machine a secret if they allow her to sens a D-Mail, to which they agree. They end up meeting Faris at her apartment, learning that she is actually wealthy and owns most of Akihabara. Okabe then attempts to call Kurisu at the lab, but she hangs up on him whenever his Hououin Kyouma peronality comes out, forcing him to be respectful and quiet. Faris sends the D-Mails and Reading Steiner activates. Okabe, Daru and Mayuri are still at Faris' apartment, but her father arrives and the group soon leaves. Okabe then learns that all of the Otaku culture in Akihabara seemed to have been replaced with electronic stores. As Faris kept her D-Mail a secret, Okabe has no idea how it changed Akihabara. While walking though Akihabara, he sees Moeka and follows her. He asks her about the IBN 5100, but learns that she does not have it. He also discovers that Moeka did not join the lab on this worldline.

Later on, Suzuha reveals to Okabe that she really came to Akihabara to search for her dad, but was unable to find him. She hopes to find him at a time-machine-based meetup, but if she cannot locate him, she will leave. Learning this Mayuri insists on throwing a party for Suzuha, with Okabe even tricking Daru into coming despite him having other plans. Suzuha does not arrive in the end and Okabe goes out to look for her. After not finding her, Okabe gives up and returns to the lab, but when he later discovers that Suzuha had left Akihabara entirely, he uses the PhoneWave to send himself a message to make sure he does not stop lookhig for him. The worldline changes again, and Suzuha is present, this Okabe having found her and convinced her to stay longer.

The Rounders threaten the lab.

Moeka holds the group at gunpoint.

The night of the day Kurisu completes the time leap machine, Mayuri's watch stops (only in the anime), much to her surprise. Soon, a group lead by Moeka attacks the lab, killing Mayuri in the process. With the help of Suzuha Amane, Okabe is able to use the Time Leap Machine to travel back through time and save Mayuri. However, no matter how many times he tries, the result does not change: Mayuri still dies. It was then that Okabe begins to be terrified of Mayuri's death every time he sees Mayuri's watch stop. Falling into despair, Okabe confronts Kurisu for help. Kurisu advises Okabe to seek an explanation from Suzuha.

John Titor and the time machine[]

Sonuvabitch mad scientist

By confronting Suzuha after time leaping, Rintaro now learns that Suzuha is, in fact, John Titor. Suzuha traveled from the year 2036 to 1975 to obtain the IBN 5100, but stopped midway at 2010 to find her father, Barrel Titor, who is currently in Akihabara. Rintaro also learns about worldlines and Attractor Fields and the future of this Alpha Attractor Field (SERN will rule the world with a dystopia, Rintaro becomes a terrorist leader and Kurisu is the mother of the time machine that enables SERN to complete world domination), and also that he cannot save Mayuri due to worldline convergence. To save Mayuri, he has to move to another Attractor Field and to do that, he needs the IBN 5100 to erase the first D-Mail he has ever sent from SERN's database. Rintaro and the other Lab Mems (consisting of Kurisu, Mayuri and Daru) agree to help Suzuha to fix the time machine (the machine previously thought to be a satellite lodged in the Radio Kaikan's rooftop), which is currently broken due to the rain a few days prior, as well as to find Suzuha's father. Daru succeeds in fixing the time machine, and Mayuri discovers that Suzuha's father is, in fact, Daru (although all the Lab Mems seem skeptical about it, Mayuri was able to show some undeniable proof, proving that Daru is the father of Suzuha). Suzuha is very happy, bids farewell to the Lab Mems and goes back to 1975 to obtain the IBN 5100 to give it to Rintaro (however, because the time machine is incomplete, she can only go back to the past, so if she manages to obtain the IBN 5100, she will have to wait 35 years to give it to Rintaro). Going back to the lab, Rintaro receives a letter from Mr. Braun, saying that it is a letter from an old friend of his, Suzu Hashida. Realizing that it is a letter from Suzuha, Rintaro crumbles upon reading it. The letter reveals that the time machine's repairs were incomplete, so while it went to 1975, it crashed, resulting in Suzuha getting amnesia. When she remembered her purpose for traveling to 1975, it was already too late to secure the IBN 5100. Suzuha fell into despair. feeling that her life was wasted. The Lab Mems then approach Mr. Braun, asking about how Suzu died. While initially hesitant to answer, Mr. Braun reveals that Suzu had committed suicide. Seeing that he cannot acquire an INB 5100 on this wordline, as well as being unable to accept Suzuha's fate, Rintaro decides to send another D-Mail to prevent himself in the past from stopping Suzuha from leaving Akihabara before the storm, allowing Suzuha to go to 1975 without losing her memories. Mayuri points out that doing so would make the other Lab Mems lose their memories regarding the time they had shared with Suzuha, except Rintaro with his Reading Steiner.

Irreversible Reboot[]

Suzuha Ending

Suzuha's Ending

In Suzuha's ending, Okabe is unable to send the D-Mail, not wanting to erase the time spent with Suzuha. As a result, he keeps using the time leap machine to go back in time and the events of World Line Divergence 0.337187% recur endlessly. This allows him to relive the last two days Suzuha spent with the group, but at the cost of no progress being made. After repeating the day countless time, Okabe's behavior changes as his soul slowly breaks. However, after possibly hundreds or even thousands of loops, Suzuha realizes Okabe is time leaping and confronts him. After discovering the truth of her suicide, she asks him to come with her to 1975 to ensure that she will not hang herself and will secure an IBN 5100. Okabe's emotions begin to resurface after this. Deciding to accept her offer, he sends handwritten letters to his parents and the lab mems explaining where he is going. The route ends with him and Suzuha entering the time machine and traveling to the past. What happens to them is left open.

Fixing Akihabara[]

After sending the D-Mail, Okabe decides to ask Mr. Braun about Suzu Hashida. Mr. Braun ends up taking Okabe to his house, which used to belong to Suzu. He learns that she still died in 2000, though from illness instead of suicide. Mr. Braun also gives him the Divergence Meter he got from Suzuha, letting Okabe see that, despite the number changing, he still has not escaped from the Alpha Attractor Field, but because he did change the worldline, the Rounders' attack and Mayuri's death is delayed by one day. During the attack, Okabe time leaps back two days. After discussing with Kurisu, the two come to the conclusion that canceling all the D-Mails in the reverse order that they were sent might save Mayuri. He begins by looking for Faris and, discovering that she is in a RaiNet tournament, he goes to find her. However, when he finds her, she is depressed that another player beat her by cheating. She convinces Okabe to use the Time Leap Machine to go back and give her sunglasses and earplugs prior to the RaiNet championship for protection, claiming that if he does this, she will remember what D-Mail she sent.

Okabe time leaps back to before the RaiNet championship happened, and manages to get Faris to accept the sunglasses and earplugs, although she is very difficult. Faris only uses the earplugs but not the sunglasses, though, so Okabe has to find the Viral Attacker in the audience at the tournament who is shining a laser in Faris’s eyes and put a stop to it. Faris wins the tournament, and talks to Okabe about how she was probably lying about being on the verge of remembering what D-Mail she would send, as well as explaining her “Cheshire Break” ESPer ability to tell whether other people are lying, tell how they are feeling, and predict their behavior.

4℃ overhears this and has his gang, the Viral Attackers, chase Faris and Okabe, who end up hiding out in the same building where Faris’ maid café MayQueen+Nyan² exists on other world lines. While hiding out there, Faris remembers everything, not just about MayQueen+Nyan², but everything else that happened on other world lines, including what D-Mail she sent. After some Viral Attackers make their way inside and attack, Faris and Okabe manage to escape outside, only to be surrounded by Viral Attackers and have 4℃ show up again, and 4℃ beats Okabe bloody. Faris’s dad Yukitaka Akiha shows up in a limousine, almost plowing straight into the crowd of Viral Attackers, sending the Viral Attackers scattering in fear, but avoids actually hitting anyone with the car, and he rescues Okabe and Faris.

After this, Yukitaka Akiha drives Okabe and Faris back to the apartment Faris and her dad share, where Okabe spends the night, and Faris tells Okabe how her D-Mail saved her dad’s life and how if she undoes it, her dad will be dead. But Faris also gives Okabe permission to undo the D-Mail and promises to help him, since it is necessary to save Faris’s friend Mayuri Shiina’s life. The next day, Okabe gets to decide whether or not to send the D-Mail to undo Faris’ D-Mail.

Isolated Jamais Vu[]

In Faris' ending, Okabe finds himself unable to send the D-Mail, not wanting to separate Faris from her father. Desperate, he and Faris create a D-Mail meant to save both Mayuri and Yukitaka. When the D-Mail is sent, Rintaro finds himself on a new worldline.

Okabe goes to check the divergence meter at Yugo's house, seeing that it is -.275349ω. While there, he encounters Nae, but she does not remember him. He then goes to the lab, finding it vacant, with the PhoneWave nowhere to be found. After that, he heads to MayQueen+Nyan², where he discovers that Mayuri no longer remembers him, Daru, and Kurisu. He also learns that the Future Gadget Laboratory does not exist. While inside, he also finds Daru inside, only to learn that Daru only knows him as "Houoin Kyouma", his RaiNet handle. Before leaving, Okabe tells Faris to watch over Mayuri and ensure she does not die. Faris eventually returns home, telling Okabe that she is alive and well. The next day, the RaiNet Tournament begins, and Okabe accepts that as the D-Mail and time-leap machines do not exist on this worldline he cannot leave and decides to go on as Faris' boyfriend and RaiNet partner.

Erasing Luka's D-Mail[]

After reversing Faris' D-mail, he checks in on her and confirms that things are back to normal.

Later on, Okabe confronts Luka at the shrine and attempts to explain everything to her, only for her to get upset when Okabe said that she used to be a boy and Okabe leaves upon seeing this. Okabe is later confronted by Kurisu and he explains the situation to her.

Luka then reluctantly agrees to allow Okabe to undo the D-Mail on the condition he agrees to go on a date with her. Okabe agrees and receives dating advice from his friends. When the date comes, it goes awkwardly due to Okabe following the advice and not being himself. He comes to see her at the shrine and apologizes for botching the date, and the two embrace. Luka then spends the rest of the day practicing with the sword Samidare along with Okabe; both of them feeling genuinely comfortable in each other's company. Luka then reminisces about how they first met, with Okabe saving Luka from being harassed on the street. However, this memory is from a world line where she was born male, and she reveals to Okabe that she had been in love with him since that first encounter that she should not be able to remember, and that she will still love him no matter what happens, female or not. Okabe smiles and sends the D-mail, reverting Luka back to being a male.

Link of Corruption and Rebirth[]

In Luka's ending, Okabe decides not to send the D-Mail that would make Luka return to being a boy again. He convinces himself that Mayuri will still die no matter what he does, so he cannot sacrifice Luka's happiness for something pointless. After Mayuri's death, Okabe holes himself up in the lab, refusing to leave. After a few days, Kurisu manages to convince him to continue his relationship with Luka.

Realizing the devastation she has brought, Luka feels guilty about Mayuri's death. Remembering that Mayuri wanted Luka to cosplay in the next convention, Luka, with the help of Okabe, leaps back in time to give Mayuri at least some happiness. Okabe jumps worldlines again and Luka explains that the plan was a success, showing him pictures of Luka, Mayuri and Okabe at the convention together, though Mayuri's fate is ultimately unchanged.

The scene closes with Luka producing the pictures they took together with Mayuri at the convention and with Okabe at peace now that he has given Mayuri some happiness. After the credits, Okabe is shown to have fathered a child with Luka.

Retrieving the IBN 5100[]

With the little information he knows about her, Okabe is able to find Moeka's apartment, but he also finds out that Moeka had committed suicide the night before. Okabe rushes back to the lab to time leap to when Moeka was still alive, but before he could do that, he realizes that someone else used the time leap machine (Nae). Unable to find out who that is, Okabe decides to forget about it and time leap. He goes to Moeka's apartment to find that she is in some kind of trauma because her boss, FB, seems to have abandoned her. After some struggling, Okabe finally takes the phone from Moeka and leaves the apartment, keeping the door shut with his body. With the help of Kurisu (who is at the lab at the time), he sends a mail to cancel Moeka's D-Mail; however, nothing happens as he realizes that the worldline has not changed (his Reading Steiner did not activate) while Moeka constantly pounds at the door. Soon, he realizes that Moeka lied to him about the content of the D-Mail. The real content is about the location of the IBN 5100. Once again, he sends a D-Mail to cancel her D-Mail, but still, nothing happens as the Moeka from the past seemed to ignore the mail and still searched for the IBN 5100. He then confronts Moeka, has another fight with her and is forced to kiss Moeka to silence her. He then gives Moeka her phone back, and offers her to help him find FB, as he thinks that only FB's mail can cancel Moeka's D-Mail.

After a stake-out in front of a locker (in which Moeka hid the IBN 5100), Okabe and Moeka tailed many people who took the IBN 5100 and spent an all-nighter to find FB, which to their surprise, turn out to be Mr. Braun. After hearing the story from Okabe about Amane Suzuha, Mr. Braun uses his gun to commit suicide. Okabe then grabs his phone and runs out of the house. Okabe is noticed by Kurisu (who has been watching outside the house) that after she heard the gunshot, someone in the house jumped out of the window and ran away. Returning to Moeka's apartment, Okabe decides to send the D-Mail, but before he could do that, Nae appears and kills Moeka with a knife (in the anime Moeka was shot by FB and then died in Okabe's arms and then FB kills himself) and tells Okabe she would meet him in another 15 years. Shocked by the new revelation, Okabe postpones sending his D-Mail to time leap again to learn the reason why Nae did it (this is optional, the player can choose to send the D-Mail instead of time leaping, the outcome will not be any different, just that Okabe will not know anything about why Nae killed Moeka). This time, Okabe waits outside of the house (FB will definitely die due to worldline convergence). After the gunshot, Nae leaps through the window, Okabe chases her and eventually catches up to her. He now learns that this is not the Nae he knows but in fact the Nae from 15 years in the future, who will actually become a Rounder. She is the one who captures Okabe and tortures him to death, and then takes the Time Leap Machine to travel to the past to exact revenge against Moeka and Okabe (though she cannot kill Okabe because doing so would result in a paradox). Upon learning the truth, Okabe finally decides to send his D-Mail and returns to the worldline on which he obtained the IBN 5100.

Struggle and Confession[]

Okabe, after undoing Moeka's D-Mail, notices that if he cracks SERN's Database and deletes the first D-Mail by using the IBN 5100 he will end up in a world where Kurisu died at Radio Kaikan. Therefore he refuses hacking SERN to delete the first D-Mail. He struggles to find a way to save both Mayuri and Kurisu, but all is in vain. When Kurisu asks him why he did not crack the first D-Mail, he tells her the truth about her death. Kurisu does not care if she dies and urges him to save Mayuri. Okabe then confesses his love for Kurisu. She kisses Okabe and they kiss each other more. When Kurisu is about to get on the plane to return to America, Okabe gives her the Future Gadget Lab #2. Okabe finally decides to sacrifice Kurisu and return to the original Attractor Field he was in. When Daru and Okabe are about to delete the first D-Mail, Kurisu bursts in, but before she can confess to Okabe, the D-Mail is erased and Okabe is sent to a new worldline.

Stardust Sky[]

Mayuri Ending

Mayuri's Ending

In Mayuri's ending, Rintaro realized that he harbors romantic feelings for Mayuri, not Kurisu. Okabe and Kurisu decide to return to the Beta world line in which Kurisu's murder continues as planned, but Mayuri notices that something strange is going on between Kurisu and Okabe so she decided to ask Okabe. After knowing about Okabe's journey to save her, about all people's happiness he sacrificed, and about Okabe's decisions, Mayuri cries and blames herself, running to see Kurisu. When Mayuri encounters her, Kurisu is in the middle of packing her things to go back to America. She runs and hugs her, saying she does not want Kurisu to disappear, only to hear that this was Kurisu's decision from the beginning and that she wants Mayuri to be happy; saying that Okabe loves her, she parts. After hacking into SERN's database with the IBN computer, 1% divergence is achieved. Okabe vows to remember his memories of Kurisu, and spends his time with Mayuri as lovers. On a date with Mayuri, she says she had a very important friend that she does not remember who and that sometimes, she hears a voice, a voice that tells her to 'find happiness'. Mayuri holds Okabe's hand (doing 'Stardust Handshake') and wondering if that important friend is the reason she is with Okabe right now, saying she wants to say her thanks.

Okabe's Failure[]

Now back on the original worldline, still reeling in devastation after Kurisu's loss, Okabe receives a phone call from Amane Suzuha, who offers to meet him on the roof of Radio Kaikan. When Okabe gets there Suzuha tells him that they needed to prevent Kurisu's death because it was the catalyst that stirred up WW3. However, when they attempt to do this, the operation ends in disaster when Okabe tries to stab the culprit with a knife but stabs Kurisu instead. The force was so strong that the knife pierced the skin and penetrated the flesh, all the way to the bone. He is then left with a dying Kurisu in his hands. Kurisu then apologizes for letting Okabe get involved in her murder, saying "I'm sorry for dragging a stranger like you into this." before finally collapsing onto him, staining his outfit and filling his soul with grief.

After returning to their time, Okabe is devastated, repeatedly saying that "I killed Kurisu" and wants to take an eternal slumber.

Fooling Himself[]

SG0countdownbkgrd

Mayuri slaps Rintaro

Surprisingly, Mayuri slaps his face. He then awaken from his delusions and receives a message from himself in the future, telling him that the way to save Kurisu without altering the events that led to him developing a time machine is to fool his past self into believing Kurisu had been killed and allowing Mayuri's Metal Upa to not be detected by the metal detector in the airport and let the files that was stolen by Shouichi Makise burn down in the accident, thus achieving the final divergence value that's larger than 1 (1.048596), which he dubs the 'Steins Gate'. His future self dubs this mission as 'Operation Skuld'. Okabe plans on doing this by knocking her out with a taser and using the fake blood in Future Gadget #6 (the lightsaber from Spark Wars.

ChangeTheResultDMail

The D-mail from 2025.

When Okabe returns to the past, he obtains the Metal Upa first before his past self does. Mayuri will then instead receive an ordinary plastic Upa, lose it, and have it picked up by Kurisu Makise. Okabe soon realizes that the fake blood he brought dried up. Without much choice, Okabe risks his own life by letting himself get stabbed by Shouichi Makise, and then using his own blood to recreate the scene where he saw Kurisu lying unconscious on a pool of blood, in order to save her. Kurisu witnesses it and calls for help. But Okabe then tasers her and leaves her lying in the pool of his blood, before saying "farewell" to Kurisu and talk about his past self (the next three weeks will only be a mere three weeks to others, but, for you, it was the time you spent with Kurisu). Suzuha calls Okabe stupid for doing that, because he risked dying of his injuries and exposing himself to his past self but Okabe retorts, stating that the mission was successful, and he fulfilled all of the objectives: to create a fake crime scene with Kurisu bleeding and fool his past self. Okabe returns to his time.

The Epilogue[]

He is hospitalized for about a month due to his wound and around September 2010, he gets out of the hospital, consequently obtaining eight LabMem badges which were just finished. Okabe visits Yanabayashi Shrine to appoint Luka Urushibara as LabMem #006 and gives him the LabMem badge, then visits Mayqueen to appoint Faris as LabMem #007 and gives her the LabMem badge as well.

As he is about to go upstairs to the Lab, he finds out that Moeka works as a Part-Timer in the CRT workshop. He then gives her the LabMem badge and appoints her as LabMem #005.

In the visual novel it continues and shows Okabe heading into the Lab and finding Mayuri and Itaru inside, and he gives them their respective LabMem Badges, while in the anime, Mayuri was not around since she was looking for Okabe who was released from the hospital. He then puts another LabMem Badge in a box and tells Itaru that the eigth Member will appear seven years later, and for Itaru it is an inescapable fate.

Okabe goes back out to the streets of Akihabara, carrying two LabMem badges. One is for himself, LabMem #001, and the other one is for LabMem #004, Kurisu. Okabe reflects that it will never reach its owner since Kurisu on this worldline has no memories of the three weeks she spent with Okabe on the Alpha Attractor Field.

A bit saddened by the realization, he walks through a crowd of Akihabara, when someone familiar passes by him. He stops and turns around, not really believing what he had seen. The person turns out to be Kurisu. She smiles thankfully and remarks that she was afraid of never being able to see him again and would forever be unable to thank him for saving her life.

Okabe who becomes too emotional puts up his Chuunibyou act and pulls out his phone. He tells the phone that he is unsure of why he was able to meet her again and states that he would accept the task of protecting her in the name of Steins Gate.

In a slip of tongue, he calls Kurisu by the nickname he used on other worldlines, Christina. Kurisu replies to him by stating that she is not Christina, nor his Assistant. Both were surprised, and Kurisu reveals that she had just acted on instinct. Okabe reflects that the Kurisu in this worldline should not have known about the nicknames he gave her in other worldlines. But then he comes to a realization, that Reading Steiner, exists in every single human. All they need is a little push and they would remember. Okabe then welcomes her and appoints her as his Assistant once more before giving her the LabMem badge he had. Okabe continues living in this Steins Gate worldline happily with both Kurisu and Mayuri safe and sound.

Absolute Zero[]

11/23
After 3 months, Okabe still has not gotten over Kurisu's death. Having given up his Hououin Kyouma persona entirely, he has stopped visiting the Future Gadget lab and has dedicated himself to becoming a completely normal university student. To this end, he has started going to counselling to deal with his trauma, has joined the tennis club and has gone on several group dates.

Okabe criticizing a heckler S;G0

Okabe criticizing a heckler.

Okabe attends a lecture hosted by Alexis Leskinen. While there, he meets Maho Hiyajo and leads her to the conference room. He briefly sees Moeka, but avoids her. During the lecture, it is revealed that Kurisu helped Leskinen and Maho develop the Amadeus system to digitally copy memories. A heckler in the crowd begins to badmouth the idea, and Okabe feeling like Kurisu was being insulted, loudly denounces the heckler. This earns him both praise and criticism from Leskinen.

At the dinner event later, he runs into Maho and ends up revealing his connection to Kurisu to her and Leskinen, though leaving out all the elements relating to SERN and time travel. Finding out that Okabe knows Kurisu's personality well, Leskinen deems Okabe to be a good test subject for Amadeus, an in-development artificial intelligence based on Kurisu's brain patterns. While initially hesitant, Okabe agrees and is taken to their lab where he meets Amadeus.

Okabe is going through a session of hypnotherapy, but fails to make progress with his trauma about the killing Kurisu. After leaving, he meets up with Mayuri. He suggests getting her something to eat and she recommends going to Akihabara. The two meet up with Luka and Faris at the train station, with Okabe telling Faris to stop calling him Kyouma as he does not want to remember his "dark past". After Okabe mentions that he has been going to a lot of matchmaking parties, Mayuri suggests that they throw a party at the lab, but quickly realizes that Okabe does not want to be near Suzuha as being around her reminded him of Kurisu's death and he could tell that she was upset at him for giving up. Mayuri suggests throwing a Christmas party at the lab and invites Okabe, but he gives a non-committal response. When Luka asks him about his counselling, Okabe lies and says the hypnotherapy was successful. As he goes with the three to a restaurant, he thinks back to his interaction with [Kurisu] (Amadeus Kurisu).

He had had a very difficult time opening up around the A.I., but eventually managed to ask her if she thought it was possible to create a time machine. She stated that she did not believe that it was possible, but acknowledges that it could be, surprising Okabe as Kurisu had given a much more critical answer to the same question in the Alpha Wordline. Leskinen then entered and Okabe accidently called [Kurisu] Christina, his old nickname or Kurisu. Okabe then wondered if Amadeus's memories can be externally modified, but [Kurisu] explained that she keeps as "secrete diary" of all events that would stay consistent even if her memories changed. Over the next hour he lost most of his apprehension regarding Amadeus. Before he left, Leskinen officially offered him a position as a tester, which he agreed to.

Back in the present, he receives a phone call from Amadeus. He answers the call, but Amadeus is upset because he had rejected eight of her previous calls. Okabe cannot bring himself to respond, and after talking a bit more, [Kurisu] hangs up. Faris snaps him out of his stupor and he continues following the group and decides to try harder to interact with [Kurisu].

12/5
While showing Amadeus around Ikebukuro, she suggests that he shows her the lab. While Okabe is debating the idea, he happens to run into Mayuri who is also going to the lab and decides to join her. Upon reaching the building, they run into Yugo Tennouji and have a brief conversation before going to the lab. Upon entering, he is greeted by Daru and Yuki and scans the room for Suzuha. Not seeing her he decides to relax on the couch. He then receives a call from Amadeus and moves to the back of the lab to avoid Amadeus being seen. He shows her the area and after receiving some criticism, he is startled by Suzuha who was hiding under the desk. His outburst gained the attention of Mayuri, Daru and Yuki who go to find him and Suzuha.

While Mayuri and Yuki take a shower, Okabe converses with Daru and Suzuha. After Daru goes to watch a livestream, Suzuha begins talking about the time she comes from and begs Okabe to at least think about using the time machine, but this reminds Okabe of Kurisu's death and he get nauseous. After collecting himself, Okabe explains his thought process and how, in his view, trying to use time travel to change the past would only lead to an even more tragic outcome. He then listens to the newscaster on television talk about a new kind of encephalitis and notes that the symptoms seem to match that of Reading Steiner.

12/15
Okabe enters Yanabayashi Shrine and calls [Kurisu] and he expresses his fears that all of his conversations with [Kurisu] will be seen by Leskinen and Maho. He asks her to forget the time he called her "Christina", but she explains that even if her memories fade, her "secret diary" will keep a record of it regardless of what she does. She continues to question why he called her that and correctly guesses that it was what he called the original Kurisu. Okabe then explains that the real reason he called Kurisu "Christina" was because he was embarrassed to call her by her actual name. [Kurisu] asks what his relationship to the original Kurisu was like, but this causes him to flash back to her death and he ends up hanging up the phone in panic. Kurisu calls him back and Okabe answers Amadeus's call. While initially upset that he hung up, [Kurisu] quickly realizes that he had gone pale and asks if something is wrong. Okabe says that he is fine and suggests that she should not call him for while, leading her to hang up. Depending if Okabe switches off his phone or not, the story enters a different path.

Stray Sheep[]

Okabe switches off his phone and goes on with his day. On his way to meet Maho and Leskinen, he bumps into Kaede and Fubuki. While talking with them, the worldline suddenly shifts, though there are no noticeable changes. After collecting himself and confirming that nothing has happened to Mayuri, he opens Amadeus in order to properly apologize for hanging up earlier, but Amadeus informs him that he already apologized and even gave him the specific time he did. On the way to the meeting with Dr. Leskinen and Maho, he calls Daru and goes over the last several days with him, confirming that his memories seem accurate.

During the meeting with the two, Maho notes how much closer Okabe has become to [Kurisu]. After the meeting, Okabe stops by the lab and bumps into Luka and Daru. Luka is on his way out, saying that his father had a guest he wanted Luka to meet. After Luka leaves, Suzuha arrives and Daru asks where she was. While initially hesitant, Suzuha admits that she was looking for her friend Kagari Shiina who she lost in 1998, revealing that she is Mayuri’s adopted daughter. Daru and Okabe then agree to help Suzuha find her. Mayuri then arrives but missed most of the conversation. The topic changes to the upcoming Christmas party. Mayuri asks him if he is inviting anyone and while he considers inviting Maho, he opts against it.

After walking Mayuri home, he concludes that the worldline shifted because someone built something similar to the Phonewave. Deciding not to overthink it, he contacts Amadeus and decides to ask her advice to find Kagari, but the options she presents are not viable. He stops himself from inviting her to the Christmas party.

12/16
The next day, Daru, Okabe and Suzuha meet up at the lab; however, none of them were able to find any leads on Kagari, so they decide to keep looking.

After checking the national diet building, but not finding any links to Kagari, Okabe instinctively contacts Amadeus. [Kurisu] suggests searching the internet by accessing the network. Okabe lets her do so, but they still cannot find any information on Kagari Shiina. She then suggests that he gathers information around the area where she disappeared to which Okabe reluctantly agrees. At that moment he is approached by Faris and Luka, causing Okabe to hide his phone and close the app to [Kurisu]'s protests. After Faris notes that he looked troubled, Okabe decides to ask them for help finding Kagari to which they agree. Okabe ends up helping Luka cary his items back to the shrine.

After leaving the shrine, Okabe realizes that he had gone to [Kurisu] before anyone else and recognized how much she reminds him of Kurisu. Later, he is called by [Kurisu] but he ignores it as well as the other calls she sends him.

12/17
After his classes, Okabe notices Leskinen at the college. He tries to follow him, but loses him. He then decides to head to the to Radio Kaikan. Despite asking around the building and the rest of Akihabara, he fails to learn anything about Kagari. Okabe thinks back to when he was searching for the IBN 5100 with Kurisu. He takes his phone out of his pocket, but decides not to call Amadeus.

Daru, Suzuha and Okabe reconvene at the lab, but with no results between them. Daru suggests using his underworld connections to look for her and contacts his associate who quickly gets back to him, telling him they are on the way there. Okabe then gets a call from Luka, who asks to come over. Okabe informs him that an acquaintance of Daru is already coming over. Before they can come up with a plan, Daru's acquaintance arrives and it is revealed to be Moeka Kiryu. Okabe is incredibly hesitant around her, repeatedly needing to remind himself that she was not there to kill Mayuri. Daru explains that while researching a story for her magazine, Moeka was able to track Daru down even when he was intentionally laying low. Daru relays the basic story to her and Moeka agrees to try and find Kagari. After Moeka leaves Suzuha realizes that Okabe knew her from the Alpha worldlines and promises to keep an eye on her.

Moeka Gives Okabe and Suzuha Her Report

Moeka gives her report.

Okabe and Suzuha meet with Moeka so she can give her report on what she has found. Moeka reveals that someone besides them have also been searching for Kagari for the past one or two months.

Okabe ''Saves'' Maho from Judy

Okabe "saves" Maho.

He then gets a distressed phone call from Maho, who gets cut off after saying she is outside the lab. He grabs the cyalume saber to use as a weapon and goes to look for Maho, who he finds being violent hugged by a woman. He tells the woman to put her down, but Maho reveals Okabe is misreading the situation. The woman then asks if Okabe is Maho's boyfriend before also hugging him. The woman is introduced as Judy Reyes a Psychophysiology professor at Viktor Chondria University. Maho remembers that someone else was following her, but Judy waves off her concern. After Judy leaves, Okabe takes Maho back to the lab, where he introduces her to everyone. Examining the evidence, Okabe concludes that Kagari is still alive. After Moeka leaves, Maho explains that Amadeus is upset that Okabe had been ignoring her calls. While Okabe agrees to speak to [Kurisu] he still does not call her that day.

12/23

Kana Arrives at the Lab

At the lab, Mayuri complains that everyone seems too busy for the Christmas party and she and Okabe then decide to throw a new years party instead. After she leaves, he tries to call Luka, but he does not pick up, so instead he sends him a RINE. Luka then shows up at the lab. Okabe offers him to come inside, but Luka says he needs to introduce someone to him. Luka then steps aside revealing a girl who resembles Kurisu, catching Okabe off guard. Luka explains that she was brought to the temple by his father's friend. When Okabe asks her for her name, they explain that she has amnesia, so they are calling her Kana for the time being. Luka had brought her to the lab hoping they have some way to help her. When Okabe asks if she had anything with her, she hands him a handkerchief with a small item inside. Before he can open it, Mayuri and Suzuha arrive. Mayuri notices the faded green Upa keychain inside the handkerchief and points out that it is from a recent movie, but that hers is oddly old. Kana then seems to get queasy and Suzuha recognizes Kana as Kagari. Kana then passes out.

Orbital Eclipse[]

12/23
After Kana wakes up, Okabe sends Luka and Mayuri to get some things so he and Suzuha can talk to Kana alone. Suzuha tries to interrogate Kana, but Okabe informs her of Kana's amnesia. Kana explains that she woke up on a mountain path in China and happened to get taken in by the priest of a nearby temple, but was later taken to Yanabayashi Shrine. After they confirm that she is indeed Kagari, Mayuri and Luka return. Luka asks if they know where Kagari's family is and Okabe lies about her and Suzuha being childhood neighbors who lost contact. After Mayuri decides to help Kagari get her memory back, Okabe asks if Kagari can stay with Luka a bit longer, to which Luka agrees. Okabe then contacts Moeka, telling her about Kagari. He then pulls Luka aside and asks him to stop Kagari from leaving the shrine if possible, which he agrees to.

12/24
Okabe takes Mayuri to Yanabayashi Shrine. While there, they talk to Luka and Kagari. Luka's father then comes and suggests that the girls help with the shrine on New Years as shrine priestesses. After this, Okabe heads back to he lab. On the way to the lab, he runs into Maho and helps her deal with a police officer who thinks that she is a lost child. Maho explains that she was taking Kurisu's laptop to someone in Akihabara and once again asks if he knows the password, which he denies. She then calls him out for running away from Amadeus and being a cold person, both of which he agrees to. Okabe then invites her to the New Years party at the lab.

The girls as Shrine Preistesses

Okabe is at the lab with Daru, Yuki, Maho, Kaede, Fubuki, Nae, and Yugo Tennouji. The group, sans Tennouji, go to Yanabayashi shrine. On the way there, Okabe encourages Fubuki and Kaede to talk to Maho in order to help her open up. Upon reaching the shrine, the group meets up with Luka, Faris, Mayuri, Kagari and Suzuha, all of whom are working as shrine maidens. Maho questions if Mayuri is Okabe's girlfriend, which he denies. That afternoon, when the group is preparing to leave, Professors Leskinen and Reyes show up, but they leave after doing the purification ritual.

The lab is invaded.

Back at the lab, the group throws their new years party. Okabe offers to go buy drinks, but Fubuki and Kaede offer to go for him. Maho then gets a call from Amadeus and asks Okabe if it okay to answer it in front of everyone. Okabe agrees as long as the camera stays off of him. Maho introduces Amadeus to everyone, but, having second thoughts about allowing everyone to meet [Kurisu], Okabe tries to get get Maho to end the conversation, but Amadeus suddenly disappears. Maho request using Okabe's phone but the turns her down. At that same time, Kagari suddenly drops a glass on the floor. Before it can be cleaned up, several masked men invade the lab and point guns at the group. Okabe flashes back to Mayuri's death. A woman in a black motorcycle outfit then walks in who Okabe assumes to be Moeka. The woman grabs Kagari. Okabe is too panicked to move. Luckily Tennouji arrives and takes out the men. Suzuha then manages to free Kagari. The assailants then retreat. Okabe realizes that Tennouji would not have gotten involved if the assailants were with SERN.

The entire group aside from Tennouji and Nae stay together as they walk to the station and the Yanabayashi shrine. By then, Daru, Suzuha, Luka, Kagari, and himself were the only ones left. Kagari apologizes for putting everyone in danger, but Okabe does not blame her. Okabe convinces everyone to not go to the police, as he knows that they cannot explain Kagari's identity. He suggests that Suzuha stays with Luka and Kagari in case anything happens. On the way back to the lab, Daru asks if this has anything to do with the time machine, which Okabe confirms.

Okabe meets up with Moeka at MayQueen+Nyan². After Okabe confirms that she was not the one who attacked them yesterday, he heads to the braun tube workshop to speak with Tennouji. He reveals that he knows of Tennouji's identity as FB and his connection to the Rounders, explaining the Alpha worldlines to him. Okabe asks Tennouji to protect Kagari, but Tenniuji turns him down. Suzuha and Kagari then arrive and Suzuha convinces him to let them work for him. Tennouji then tells Okabe that the people yesterday were saying "K6205", and that it was most likely military code.

Okabe then heads up to the lab, where everyone had already gathered. Yuki has to go to leave, but reveals an injury similar to that of the woman in the helmet. Okabe then explains what happened to Fubuki and Kaede, saying Kagari might have been involved in a crime before losing her memory. Okabe informs everyone of the code Yugo told him and Kaede suggest that it might be a Kochel number. With this information they manage to conclude that it is a reference to the fifth song in Mozart's The Magic Flute opera. Seeing the connection to Mozart, Okabe calls Maho to see if Amadeus is working, but she reveals that it seems like someone else took it over. After hanging up Okabe is suddenly called by Amadeus.

Twin Automata[]

He cannot bring himself to answer the call. Suddenly, Reading Steiner activates.

Okabe finds that he is still in the lab, but while Kaede, Fubuki, and Faris are all gone, Maho and Moeka are present. It is explained to him that the New Years party had taken place at Luka's house, where Luka's father revealed that he found a possible relative of Kagari in Iwate, which is what led to Kagari, Luka, his father and Suzuha leaving. At the same time, Maho was informed of a gas leak in the Wako office which forced her and Leskinen to relocate their lab to Toki Denki. Later, after meeting up with Moeka for an interview, Maho had returned to her hotel room to find that it had been ransacked. Okabe suggests that they might have been after Kurisu's laptop and hard drive, but Maho assures him that they were still in her bag. Maho suddenly gets a call from [Kurisu], who asks if she is okay. After Maho explains what happened to her, [Kurisu] suggests that they might have been after her control codes, the code to access [Kurisu]'s secret logs that only Maho knows. Okabe then takes Maho to Faris's apartment. When Faris suggests that Moeka should stay there too, Okabe objects but is overruled.

Okabe heads to Faris's apartment to make sure Moeka has not caused any problems. After a short talk with Kuroki, the butler of Faris, he goes to the guest room and is surprised by how messy it had already become. After Moeka's interview fails to progress, they suggest that Okabe interviews her instead. Okabe agrees and during the interview, Maho explains some of the complications with AI and how Amadeus seeks to surpass them.

After getting to the apartment, they cannot get in contact with Faris. They are let in by an exhausts Kuroki and Okabe makes his way to guest room to see that it has become even more messy than before. Mayuri realizes that Faris asked them to come to help clean the room and the two head back to the lab where they ask Nae to help them as "Sergeant Clean". Okabe also contacts Daru, Fubuki, and Kaede for assistance. Back at Faris's apartment, Nae, as Sergeant Clean, instructs them on how to clean the room. That night, everyone enjoys a dinner made by Kuroki. When Kaede starts playing "The Turkish March" on the piano, Okabe notices how Maho seems uncomfortable. He follows her to the guest room where she reveals that the piece reminded her of Kurisu. Moeka then arrives and expresses concern for Maho. Maho assures both of them that she is okay. Okabe and Mayuri take Nae back to the workshop, with Maho tagging along. On the way, Okabe nearly tells Maho the truth about Kurisu's death, but before he can, Nae is nearly hit by a car. The group is then surrounded by masked and armed individuals including the woman in the biker suit. Realizing that the attackers were after Maho, Okabe convinces her to run and attempts to slow them down. Tennouji, who had come to see why Nae was late, arrives and manages to fight the group off. As the woman flees, Okabe tries to stop her, but she manages to knock him unconscious. [Kurisu] later contacts Okabe about Maho's situation, and he asks Moeka to go save her.

Over the next month, following Amadeus's deletion, Okabe reveals the truth about everything to Maho, even showing her the time machine.

Antinomic Dual[]

Okabe answers Amadeus's call and she asks him for help, but he finds reading Steiner suddenly activating. He finds himself still at the lab, but notices that it seems like no one has been there recently. He checks his phone, but sees that the Amadeus app is not there. Hearing a sound from the back of the development room, he checks it out only to see an alive Kurisu.

Upon seeing Okabe, Kurisu notes that he does not come by there anymore. Overwhelmed with emotion, Okabe hugs her in tears. After he calms down, Okabe realizes that Kurisu being alive mean that Mayuri died in this world line. Noticing Okabe beginning to panic, Kurisu helps calm him down again. After getting him some water, she reveals that both he and Daru stopped coming by. Okabe asked about the PhoneWave and Kurisu says that he destroyed it. She then sends him out to get something to drink. Okabe leaves, but quickly realizes that Kurisu was planning something and goes back to the lab where he sees that Kurisu had recreated the PhoneWave. Kurisu reveals that she figured out that Okabe had come from a Beta worldline and that someone else had changed the past. She explains that since Mayuri died Okabe has been blaming himself and she does not want this guilt to crush him. She tells Okabe to forget about her, but Okabe refuses. In the end, he allows her to send the D-Mail.

Reading Steiner activates and Okabe is still at the lab. Mayuri, Luka and Kagari all notice something is wrong with Okabe, but he brushes it off. He then notices that Kagari is calling Daru "Uncle" and Mayuri "Mommy". He then learns that in this worldline, he had revealed the truth of Kagari's origins to Mayuri and Luka, and Kagari retained her memories from before time travelling. Okabe then notices that there is no bullet hole in the floor, meaning that they had not been attacked last night. Realizing the worldline change after he answered Amadeus's call, he asks Kagari if the term Amadeus meant anything to her. She says no before heading to work. Okabe checks his phone and notices that the Amadeus icon is still missing.

Meeting with Maho that night, he bring up Amadeus, but Maho is confused about how he even knows about it as the project was put on hold after Kurisu's death. When pressed on how he knows about it, Okabe lies and says Kurisu told him about it. Maho then reveals that an outside group had complained about the project's moral implications. Through conversing with Maho, Okabe learns that the two had met when she went to the Radio Building.

1/3
The next day Okabe once again confronts Tennouji and asks him to protect Kagari. After making the deal with him, Okabe heads up to the lab where he runs into Luka. Luka explains that Kagari seemed to recognize Viktor Chondria University on TV. Okabe decides to talk to Kagari about this and invites Maho as she is a part of the university. While Kagari seems not to know anything, she calls Maho "senpai", and states that she has her own spoon despite not actually having one. After asking her several more questions, Okabe concludes that Kurisu's memories have somehow been transferred into Kagari.

That night Okabe explains his thoughts to Suzuha and ponders if the woman in the motorcycle suit could have been Yuki.

1/4
The next day, Maho and Okabe ask Kagari more questions with Okabe concluding that even if she has Kurisu's memories, she cannot freely recall them. Though, Maho is still hesitant to admit the possibility. After asking some more questions, Maho leaves.

Kagari's Panic Attack S;G0

Kagari's Panic Attack

While conversing with Kagari, she explains that she always heard stories about Okabe from Mayuri and Daru. Okabe then invites her shopping. While out Kagari explains that, in the future, no one blames Okabe for how things turned out, as they all believed that he would eventually reach Steins Gate. This unintentionally makes Okabe feel worse about giving up. He ends up taking her to MayQueen, but they leave when Faris tells them about the half-hour wait time. They end up buying cup ramen and she abruptly asks him about Kurisu, leading him to explain her personality. During the conversation, Kagari suddenly collapses into Okabe. She suddenly has an emotional breakdown, begging Mayuri to save her. Okabe manages to calm her down and the two return to the lab, where Kagari falls asleep. Mayuri and Luka later arrive. Kagari wakes up, but begins speaking as if she was Kurisu which leads to Okabe trying to remind her of who she is. Once she calms down, they take her back to Yanabayashi shrine. Meeting Suzuha and Maho back at the lab, he explains Kagari's situation to them and explains the truth about time travel to Maho. Okabe then explains that he believes that Kagari somehow ended up at Viktor Chondria and made contact with Amadeus. He also suspects that the person who implanted Kurisu's memories into Kagari knew Kurisu had the basic theory for time travel. Maho suggest that they could possibly fix Kagari's memory by overwriting her current memories with her last ones and that she could make the equipment to do it.

Okabe & Kagari S;G0

Even after asking around Chiba, Okabe has not learnt anything about Kagari's past. At the lab, Kagari is helping Maho build the machine while Daru hacks into SERN's LHC. Okabe calls out to Kagari several times, but she does not respond until he calls her Kurisu. Kagari suddenly breaks down, admitting that she cannot distinguish her memories from Kurisu's anymore. At Daru's suggestion, Okabe takes Kagari for a walk to clear her head. While out, Kagari asks Okabe to take her somewhere he took Kurisu. He eventually ends up taking her to Radio Kaikan, though Okabe is slightly panicked to go inside. The two make their way to the Time machine in the roof. It then starts to rain and the two head back inside. Kagari, noticing that Okabe seemed frightened, pats his head like Mayuri used for do for her. Kagari then expresses her fear about losing her memories as Kagari. The two leave the building and make their way to Yanabayashi Shrine.

When they reach the shrine, Kagari suddenly seems to forget suddenly who Mayuri and who she herself are before screaming and begging her parent to help her. She passes out and Okabe leaves the shrine that night.

Okabe reaches the lab right as Daru and Maho complete their projects. Okabe then receives a message from Luka telling him that Kagari had woken up and calmed down. Maho then reveals that someone raided her hotel room and suggests that they were after Kurisu's laptop, which she gave to Daru. Okabe suggests that they might be able to use that to their advantage.

Suzuha in disguise

Okabe, through Moeka, leaked information saying that a girl matching Kagari's description walked down the same road everyday. He, Tennouji, and Suzuha then set up a sting with Suzuha dressed as Kagari in order to lure out attackers. This works as Suzuha is attacked by a group of men, but she and Tennouji fight them all off. They manage to catch one, but at the cost of Okabe getting stabbed. Tennouji begins torturing the man for information, and he reveals that he is working for Stratfor. Okabe tells Daru to hack into the Stratfor servers, but Tennouji points out that as Stratfor is a civilian company, someone is hiring them, so catching members would not lead to the true source.

Okabe and Suzuha head back to the lab where their friends are waiting. Faris and Luka get first aid for Okabe. Meanwhile, Kagari is breathing heavily on the couch. She begs Okabe to erase her and Okabe realizes those are Kurisu's words. Okabe tries to get Daru to hurry, but Suzuha informs him of multiple Stratfor agents outside the building. Daru manages to hack Stratfor and and finds multiple files. He manages to find the folders of memory data and Okabe recalls that Kagari's code number was K6205, allowing them to find the right file. They prepare to send the memories to Kagari as the Stratfor agents enter come up the stairs. Okabe then receives the call to overwrite Kagari's memories.

Recursive Mother Goose[]

Okabe is hesitant to answer the phone, but Kagari(Kurisu) answer it for him. The Worldline suddenly changes as Okabe finds himself at the empty lab. An exhausted Okabe then goes to sleep on the couch. He is later woken up by Mayuri. Okabe speculates that the deletion of Kurisu's memories changed the worldline as those memories were related to the time machine. He takes Daru outside to compare their memories and then learns that in this worldline, Kagari did not remember anything besides the recent past, never seemed to have Kurisu's memories, and he, Daru and Suzuha were the only ones that knew her true identity. As they reenter the building, they hear Mayuri singing. Kagari, who also arrived at the time, recognizes the song, but passes out. After she wakes up, Kagari asks where Mayuri is, but Okabe tells her that she went to work. The two of them decide to meet up with Mayuri when she finishes her shift.

When her shift ends, Mayuri tells them that she heard the song from Suzuha. The group then head to the Braun Tube Workshop, but Tennouji tells them that Suzuha had something to do that afternoon. Okabe messages her asking where she is, and she reveals that she's at GO GO Curry and when they get there, and Suzuha reveals that she heard the song from Yuki. The group decide to ask Yuki about it, but when Mayuri messages her, they learn that she is on a date with Daru. While they decide to wait and speak with her later, they happen to see the café the two are eating at. Deciding to watch them, the three wait out of sight, but are accidentally discovered. Not trying to be discrete anymore, Okabe goes ahead and asks where Yuki heard the song. Yuki reveals that she heard it from someone at a dessert cooking class. Asking Yuki to contact that person, she gives them her email address, and Okabe is surprised to find that Yuki's friend is his mom.

Back at the lab, Okabe calls his mom on the roof. He asks her where she heard the song from and she reveals that she heard it from him, to his disbelief. She explains that shortly after beginning his Hououin Kyouma phase, he started singing whenever he took a bath. He heads back down and explains what he heard to Mayuri and Kagari. They decide that going to Mayuri's grandmother's grave might trigger some memories.

Promised Rinascimento[]

2036

Okabe meets Suzuha and Future Daru

Okabe quickly answers the phone and presses it to Kagari's head. Reading Steiner activates and he suddenly finds himself in complete darkness. He is suddenly woken up by Kurisu in the lab. Okabe, seemingly nonchalant about her presence is surrounded by all the lab members, including Alpha Suzuha. Okabe then begins the 65,536th round table. Okabe then realizes that something is wrong. While everyone is present, everything feels emotionless and cold. He then wakes up in a bed, his throat dry and his body in pain. Okabe manages to make his way out of the building, only see a desolated area around him. After a while, he recognizes the area as Akihabara and decides to head to the lab, but is cut off by armed soldiers. The soldiers threaten him, but are killed by Suzuha who does not seem to recognize him. He says his name and Suzuha takes him to a man in his mid-forties who turns out to be Daru. Okabe then realizes that he is in the future. Daru explains that it is 2036 and that at the end of January 2011, Maho saved Okabe's memory data for Amadeus research. Later, Okabe was captured by Stratfor who hoped that he could break the inscription on Kurisu's laptop and tortured him to the point where he was basically brain dead. Mayuri, Faris and Luka had looked after him after that point. Stratfor had been holding onto Okabe and Kurisu's memory data and Daru could not locate it until about two week prior in a basement at Tokyo Denki.

Okabe holds a dying Luka S;G0

A young Kagari then arrives at the base before Daru contacts Mayuri, Luka, and Faris to tell them about Okabe. However, learning that their friends are walking into a trap, Okabe, Daru, and Suzuha go to save them. They make it just in time to see Mayuri and Faris kneeling over an injured Luka. Luka is happy that Okabe is there, but ends up dying in his arms.

Back at the base, Okabe realizes how hellish the future is. Daru tells Okabe to release [Kurisu] from the bonds of Amadeus, a message from himself in 2025. Maho then contacts them over the radio and points out the time leap machine in the room. They explain that it will take about 3,000 leaps to go back. Okabe agrees and after 3000 leaps, he finds himself back at the lab.

1/31/2011
Everyone is concerned that Okabe seems to be acting oddly and Maho questions if it is because they just copied his memories over. Okabe then confirms that while Kagari does remember her past with Mayuri, she does not possess Kurisu's memories. After everyone leaves, Okabe is able to come to terms with recent events. Maho then comes back and asks Okabe what was bothering him. Okabe then explains everything to her, even showing her the time machine.

Houoin Kyouma retruns S;G0

He calls everyone back to the lab and asks for Suzuha's opinion of him. At her admission that his defeatist attitude pisses her off, he suggests that she hits him to get rid of her frustrations. After being knocked across the room by her punch, Okabe begins laughing menacingly. Hououin Kyouma had returned. After getting his lab coat back, he designates Maho and Kagari as Lab Mems 009 and 010 respectively.

2/1/2011
Okabe decides that the best way to prevent WWIII is to destroy Kurisu’s laptop and erase her memory data from Amadeus. Maho is initially against it, but Okabe manages to convince her. Maho tries to access Amadeus, but finds that her credentials are no longer recognized and Okabe tells Daru to hack into Viktor Chondria. Meanwhile, Okabe unpackages a Microwave he purchased in order to recreate the PhoneWave and time leap machines. Daru quickly does so and they see that not only is Kurisu’s memory data is missing, but there is a new folder with higher security. Okabe considers contacting Amadeus with his phone, but realizes that doing so would get Stratfor’s attention. He then has Daru hack into Stratfor, but is surprised that Kurisu’s memory data is not there either. However, Maho does note that the Stratfor was doing human experiments with memory data. He then tells Daru to hack into hack into the locked folder on the Viktor Chondria site.

2/2/2011
Okabe and Maho complete the Time Leap Machine while Daru is still hacking the folder. After sending a text to Moeka, Okabe has the lab members pair off and wander around Tokyo while using phones with Amadeus installed. The phones also have a program named Salieri that responds in real time using Okabe's voice. This would trick Amadeus into thinking Okabe was at different locations. At the same time, Moeka would spread information about Okabe and Maho having Kurisu's laptop. This would cause them to be too distracted to notice Daru's hacking. Kagari wants to help too, but Okabe and Mayuri convince her to stay put, as Stratfor already knows her face. Daru then suggests taking Kagari to his hideout with Yuki, who had come inside while they were talking, offering to go with her. Before they begin the plan, Mayuri suggests that Okabe says goodbye to [Kurisu].

Okabe contacts [Kurisu] in the streets of Akihabara. He asks her if she would give up her life for her friends and she says that she would, but mutters that she would be satisfied enough if someone remembered her. This causes Okabe to flash back to when Kurisu told him to forget about her in the Alpha worldline. Okabe promises her that he will not forget her and attempts to hang up, but Kurisu, feeling like this would be their last conversation cuts him off. Okabe says it will not be last time they meet before ending the call. He then hands his phone over to Mayuri and Luka before returning to the lab.

Five hours into he operation, Maho gives Okabe a printed copy of Stratfor's report, including a list of test subjects which includes Kagari. Daru then gets a call from Yuki telling him that Kagari had run off. Maho suspects that Kagari's brainwashing had activated. Okabe then receives a call on the backup phone Faris had given him. Seeing that the call is from Kagari's number, he answers. The voice on the other end tells him they have Kagari and they will exchange her for Kurisu's laptop and hard drive the next day before hanging up.

Later, Okabe consults Moeka and Suzuha about what to do, and they all agree that they cannot take the kidnappers at their word and they agree to bust in and take her back. Suzuha hands Okabe a Glock.

Remembering Daru's words from 2036, Okabe leads Suzuha to Tokyo Denki. After getting to the basement, Okabe is led to the right room by Suzuha who infiltrated the base in the future. When they break into the room, they see that Judy Reyes has already killed multiple Stratfor agents and has Kagari strapped to a machine. Dr. Reyes reveals that she is with DURPA. In order to buy time, Okabe brings out his Kyouma persona. He correctly asserts that she infiltrated Viktor Chondria to obtain their AI research, but became interested in the time machine after examining Amadeus. She offers him a spot at DURPA, but he refuses. Reyes then explains that she is overwriting Kagari's memories with Kurisu's. Suzuha advises Okabe to give up on Kagari before rushing at the doctor, but Reyes shoots Suzuha before she can reach her. Reyes attempts to complete the memory transfer, but it does not work. Kagari then wakes and runs to Okabe while an only slightly injured Suzuha disarms her. Reyes then attempts to upload the memories into herself, but Daru manages to delete Kurisu's memories first, resulting in Reyes's mind being overwritten by nothingness, essentially making her brain dead. The three of them then leave.

2/6/2011
As Fubuki and Kaede prepare to leave the lab, Fubuki notes that Okabe had become easier to talk to. Suzuha wonders why Kagari's memories were not overwritten and Kagari remembers that she heard a voice yell "No!" at that same moment. This causes Maho to speculate that Amadeus had rejected the transfer. Mayuri and Luka then note that when they were speaking to Amadeus, it hung up half way through. Daru then asks Okabe why the worldline did not change and he responds that the worldline changed whenever he did something that caused Amadeus to fall into someone's hands and it was used to change the past, but because Amadeus was deleted, the worldlines did not change. He then offers pins to every Lab member.

12/18/2011

Operation Helheim S;G0

Maho visits the lab. In the time since their last meeting, Daru had altered the PhoneWave to send RINE messages that cannot be detected by Echelon. Understanding that he cannot reach Steins Gate in this worldline, and listening to the advice of his future self to deceive the world, Okabe decided that the best course of action was to send a D-Mail back in time, allowing a different version of him to reach that end. Kagari is hesitant, but Okabe assures her that she is destined to meet Mayuri in the Beta attractor field regardless of what they do. Suzuha thanks Okabe for his work, and Okabe announced the beginning of Operation Helheim, and he sends the D-RINE to the past.

X-Day Protocol[]

12/15/2010
While he considers turning his phone off, he does not do it and goes on with his day.

On his way to meet with Maho and Leskinin, Okabe runs into Fubuki and Kaede. They note that he looks unwell, but he tells them that he's fine. Fubuki notes that Mayuri is sad whenever Okabe seems down and asks him who the girl he likes is. Okabe once again flashes back o Kurisu's death. Fubuki and Kaede try to check on him, but he decides that it would be best for him to just leave.

At his meeting with Maho and Leskinin, Okabe requests to leave the test. While Leskinin is understanding, Maho is annoyed. When asked why he wanted to quit, Okabe explains that he's starting to see Kurisu and [Kurisu] as the same person. Leskin understands, but states that he would like to leave the program on Okabe's phone anyway so he'd be able to talk to Amadeus at his own pace. After Leskinen leaves, they both apologize and continue to talk. Okabe mentions that he heard Leskins talk about Kurisu's mom a the party before and Maho reveals that her house was burned down. Not only that but the FBI took over the investigation and the arsonists seemed to be speaking Russian, and some men posing as police had come to the Viktor Chondria to search the lab after Kurisu's death. Okabe realizes that these events were probably the beginning of the arms race for the time machine. Maho voices her thought of an conspiracy to Okabe and asks him if he knows anything, but Lekinin returns before he can answer her. The group heads to the garage to meet with Pr. Izaki, who had offered to take them all to dinner.

Before they can get in Izaki's car, someone begins firing shots at them, forcing Okabe and Maho to hide behind it. Okabe can see a man with a pistol speaking religious phrases. Izaki is killed and Okabe used the opportunity to get himself, Leskinin and Maho in the car. He is grazed by a bullet, but manages to keep himself calm. Okabe tries to drive away, but doesn't know how to drive, leading Maho to take the wheel. They manage to get past the attacker at the cost of some damage to the vehicle, but, noticing the man approaching them in his own car, Okabe orders everyone to get out. While the passenger side door is jammed, Okabe managed to pull Maho out the driver's side and all 3 get out right before the attacker rams into their car at full speed, seemingly killing himself.

X-Day attack - Aftermath

The Aftermath

Okabe takes out his phone to call the police, but building security comes down before he dials the number and Okabe tells them to do it instead. Okabe then starts feeling the pain from his injury and Maho points out the the man who attacked them was the man from the seminar who had criticized Amadeus. The presumed dead assailant suddenly crawls out of the wreckage despite his injuries. He continues speaking religious phrases and points his gun at Leskinen. Before he can pull the trigger, he is shot in the head and dies. Shocked, Okabe looks around, but can't identify the shooter.

After the incident, they are taken into police custody and questioned late into the night. Maho and Leskinen have the police escort them back to their hotel while Okabe separated from them at the train station.

12/21
Okabe takes Maho to MayQueen so he can meet up with Daru. After a short conversation with Faris, he leaves Maho with her as he moves to Daru's table. Daru reveals that he is looking for a girl name Kagari who is Mayuri's adopted daughter form 2036 who got separated from Suzuha in 1998. Okabe agrees to help look for her and they move to the next topic of conversation, but Daru wants to communication through r-line. Daru reveals that at his side job someone dropped of a laptop belonging to Kurisu and asks if Okabe knows how to unlock it, which he doesn't.

12/24

Okabe apologizes to (Kurisu)

While at the Wako lab, Okabe receives a call from Mayuri to remind him about the Christmas party and Okabe promised to be there. Maho, who was listening in says the party sounds like fun, but politely rejects Okabe's invitation. She then confirms out that Okabe came to her for help apologizing to [Kurisu] and asks him why he feels the need to do so. Okabe states that even if he doesn't end up contacting her again, he doesn't want their relationship to end on bad terms. Maho suggests saying something nice and he calls [Kurisu]. While [Kurisu is clearly mad, he nervously tries to apologize. [Kurisu takes the apology in stride and agrees to forgive Okabe if he takes Maho out to dinner, to both his and Maho's surprise. Okabe explains that he's going to a christmas party, [Kurisu] urges him to take Maho to that instead. Leskinen then walks in and asks if either of them have christmas plans and happily invites himself after hearing about the party.

At the party, Okabe introduces Maho and Leskinen to everyone. He also participates in the group's attempt to surprise Suzuha. When they begin the gift exchange, opens a set of baby doll lingerie from Fubuki who suggest giving it to Mayuri. He ends up trading in the gift back to Fubuki in exchange for the gift she had received. Opening his new gift, he see it to be a pair of pink see-through shorts with a matching bra. Kaede reveals that she had brought that present and like Fubuki, encourages Okabe to have Mayuri wear it. Mayuri says that since she already got a present from Okabe (a big piece of chocolate in the shape of a gold bar that he had purchased from Donkey Xote). Part way through the party, Fubuki and Okabe both collapse and Reading Steiner actives.

Pandora's Box[]

Yuki and Nakase being led to Okinawa

Okabe suddenly finds himself being guarded by the Japanese Defense force as they trudge though a corpse ridden war zone. Okabe is guarded and moved by the JSDF for one month on his way to Okinawa. Shortly before reaching Okinawa, his transports picks up his friends with Yuki and Fubuki riding with him. Shimoyama, the man in charge of their transport, asks the groups a series of questions, with Okabe learning that Fubuki also has memories of the other worldline. Shimoyama suddenly gets a call and is forced to take Okabe to Kaneda Air Base and hand him over to the US.

Mayuri and Okabe reunite in the war
Amadeus with the government

After reaching the location, Okabe reunites the Mayuri, Rumiho, and Luka. The reunion is short lived though as Okabe gets in the car at the direction Hammond, US military personnel. Shimonaya attempts to warn Okabe not to go with them, but he is gunned down as Okabe is shoved in the car. While in the vehicle, Hammond shows Okabe a phone. Activating it, Okabe learns that the US military has acquired Amadeus.

1/21
Before he can ask any questions, he is suddenly brought back to the other worldline. Learning that a month has passed and Fubuki also collapsed, he decided to visit her with Mayuri, Kurumi, and Yuki. While in the hospital, he confirms that she also recalls the other worldline and explains reading Steiner to her, warning her not to tell anyone about it.

Suzuha threatens Okabe

On the way out of the hospital, Suzuha contacts him to meet him in secret. Meeting on top of Radio Kaikan, she asks him to tell her if the world line changed. He confined that while it had changed, it has changed back. Desperate to fulfill her mission, Suzuha tries to force Okabe to go with her to July 28th, pointing a gun at him for good measure. Okabe is saved by Daru, who received an anonymous text with directions to the building. While Daru talks to Suzuha, Okabe takes the opportunity to leave.

1/23

Okabe and Maho at the claw Machine

2 days later, Okabe takes Maho and Amadeus to a tech shop so that Maho could hang out with [Kurisu]. They later move to an arcade filled with @channel merchandise, much to [Kurisu]'s embarrassment. Maho attempts to win an stuffed animal in a claw machine, but fails until she eventually gives up. Okabe manges to wint the animal Maho was after and gives it to her. Maho then asks him to shut Amadeus off, and after he does so, Maho asks Okabe to Radio Kaikan, the place where Kurisu died.

After reaching the building, Okabe is hesitant to go inside, but not wanting Maho to go in alone, he firms himself and the two enter. When the two reach the 8th floor, where Kurisu died, Maho begins examining the situation: that Kurisu attended a press conference by Dr. Nakabachi, she died afterwards, Nakabachi fled to Russia with a time travel thesis, the people who burn Kurisu's mother's house down were Russian, information about Nakachi has been scrubbed from the internet, and Okabe asked [Kurisu] if a time machine was feasible. Okabe asks her to drop it, but she wonders if the earlier attack was targeting her and reveals that she has some of Kurisu's belongings. Putting the pieces together Okabe figures out that the person who gave Daru Kurisu's laptop must have been Maho. Realizing Daru could be in danger, Okabe calls him and agrees to meet him at work.

They meet up at Daru's workplace and follow Daru to his secret office in the back. While there, Okabe is contacted by Amadeus.

Gehenna Stigma[]

If Okabe answers the call, Amadeus tells him and Maho that someone had raided the office in Wako City and Maho's hotel room. Understanding that the raiders must be after the laptop, Okabe suggests that they leave. At the same time, they see several men surround the building through the security cameras. As the group leaves out the back, they see several non-japanese men enter the building.

Worried for Maho's safety, Okabe takes her to Faris's apartment. When Maho questions him about what to do with the laptop, he is insistent on destroying it. He warns her that the laptop is at the center of an international power struggle and John Titor's warnings. He also reveals that Nakabachi is Kurisu's father, and that she wrote her own Time Travel thesis. Maho states that she assumed the laptop had data on Amadeus that could be used for military purposes, causing Okabe to remember the other worldline.

6/25
6 months later, while relaxing at a Cafe, Okabe is contacted by Mayuri who want to go shopping. He ends up going with her. During the shopping, Okabe talks to Amadeus and agrees to show it to his friends if Maho approves. He buys Mayuri an Upa keychain. After leaving, Mayuri notices an email from Kaede telling her that Fubuki is back in the hospital, causing then to go to the AH Tokyo General Hospital High-Tech Medical Center to talk to her. When they get there, Kaede and Yuki are already present and Kaede explains that Fubuki seems fine and the American and Japanese government are paying for the treatments. He then notices Leskin talking to a doctor and approaches the man. When the doctor asks how they know each other, Leskinin lies by saying that Okabe is transferring to Viktor Chondria University. After the man leaves, Leskinin offered Okabe a real scholarship to the university, but instead of responding Okabe asks why he is back in Japan. Leskinin explains that he and Maho are back in Japan and invites okabe to visit them in Wako City, bringing [Kurisu]. He then tells Okabe that the US government can to his department for help with the encephalitis cases and that Fubuki had told him that she had experienced other worlds in her dream, causing Okabe to briefly panic at her telling him about reading Steiner. He later meets Maho at a Cafe. After some banter involving Amadeus, Okabe reveals that he destroyed the laptop.

7/6
When Okabe goes to meet Pr. Leskinin, the man once again offers to let Okabe transfer to Viktor Chondria University. Okabe responds that while he does with to go there, he doesn't believe himself to be ready for it yet. Leskin then offered Okabe a chance to visit some point in the future, to which Okabe accepts. He then notices Maho give a sad look in the background.

Okabe then visits Maho at her hotel where she asks him to tell her the truth about Kurisu. She then reveals that she's been researching time travel since there last interaction and hopes to use the time machine to go back and save Kurisu's life. When Okabe strongly rejects the idea, Maho concludes that he does know more then he's telling her and gets excited at the prospect of a working time machine, however, Okabe bluntly shuts her down. Realizing that she overstepped, Maho apologizes and begins to cry. Realizing that Maho was more distressed then she had been letting on, Okabe agrees to tell her the truth, but only on the condition where she doesn't tell anyone else and doesn't try to save Kurisu. Okabe then reveals the details about the Alpha worldline, the time machine, Reading Steiner, the arms race for the time machine, and world war III, only leaving out details about how Kurisu died.

Maho then begins asking Okabe multiple questions regarding Reading Steiner and Kurisu's time travel research. While Okabe only knows the basics behind her research, he admits that might be able to recreate her thesis with Daru's help. Maho then asks where Suzuha's time machine is and, while hesitant, Okabe tells her it's location. Suddenly, Maho tackles Okabe and pins him against a wall, chocking him. She apologizes to Okabe before tearily telling him that he shouldn't have told her anything. Okabe manages to turn on [Amadeus] before blacking out.

Okabe later wakes up zip-tied to a chair inside a monitor filled room. Leskinin then approaches Okabe followed by several men in black suits. Leskinin explains that Okabe is very valuable for his information and is currently under his "protection". When Okabe asks about Maho, Leskinin clarifies that they did not originally approach him for information, but Okabe becomes increasingly angry at being betrayed. After sending the other men away, Leskin explains that he is part of Strategic Focus, and American civilian intelligence company, and intends to sell information about time machines to multiple countries around the world. This enrages Okabe, who points out how this will result in wordlines constantly changing with no on ever the wiser. Leskinen agrees and states that Okabe's reading Steiner would be necessary. Okabe then realized that the encephalitis patients were brought to get to Tokyo to be studied rather than treated. Leskinen then reveals that he had brainwashed both Fubuki and Maho in order to get information on Rintaro and explains that he intends to copy his brain with Amadeus, so even if he dies or goes insane from torture, the information he possess can be used. He is then tortured into unconsciousness.

Later, Okabe slowly ways up to to Maho calling out his name. She apologizes for betraying him and promises that he won't see her again. She asks him to find steins gate and explains that Mayuri and Suzuha are missing, Kagari, who help her find Okabe, has died, and Amadeus was deleted. She then asks him once again to reach steins gate before disappearing.

Okabe suddenly comes to in a hospital. He sees on the news that there was a terrorist attack in Akihabara leading to many injuries. After attempting to call Mayuri, he goes outside and sees a pillar of smoke billowing in that sky. He then called Daru, who informs him that he's on the run and has left Akihabara. Daru also tells him that both Faris and Luka evacuated. Okabe then breaks down, contemplating why he's not allowed to live a normal life. Daru reveals that he intends to build a time machine. Okabe breaks down deciding to live a normal life as long as possible before WWIII.

Presage or Recognize[]

Rintaro, Daru, and Maho looking through the security cameras

Rintaro, Daru and Maho seeing the building get surrounded.

Okabe ignores Amadeus's call in favor of talking to Daru. Daru brings out the laptop and hard drive. Maho and Okabe bicker about whether it's right to look for answers or not and Maho points out that Kurisu would agree with her, something Okabe can't refute. At Daru's urging Okabe agrees to tell Maho the truth. After telling her the truth about the time machine Kurisu, Nakabachi, & WWIII (sans how Kurisu died), Maho states that it was different then what she expected. When Okabe asks what she means, Maho says that she expected him to talk about Amadeus being used by the military and reveals that Kurisu was often visited by government agents and she had suspected that the government had taken her out to keep her quiet. Moving on, Okabe suggests destroying the laptop, while Maho wants to see what's on it. Okabe asks if she asked Amadeus for the password. Maho confided that she did but but it didn't know. This lead Okabe to suspect that Kurisu changed the password without alerting Amadeus. Maho reluctantly agreed to get rid of the laptop, but then asks to see the time machine and speak to Suzuha. Before the conversation can progress a beep from the security monitor alerts them to multiple mean surrounding the building.

Maho held hostage

Maho held hostage.

The group sneaks out through a secret exit Daru had in place, but they get cornered in an alley by a different group and Maho is captured. Okabe agrees to do as they say and the person holding MAho takes off her helmet, revealing Moeka. Okabe the instructs Daru to give him his backpack, which contains Kurisu's laptop. Okabe manages to stall for several minutes, but the assaulters begin to get impatient and Moeka threatens to kill someone.

Soldiers destroy the labtop

Before anyone is hurt, a black van pulls up outside the alley and multiple people in military gear step out. Okabe warns everyone to get down before the military agents begin shooting. In the resulting gunfire, several rounders are killed an Kurisu's laptop is destroyed. With the Rounder having already left, the soldiers grab the remains of the laptop and leave. Okabe then realizes that WWIII might have already started.

After getting back to the lab, Okabe attempts to comfort a shaken Maho. Noticing Maho is holding something Okabe opens her hand to show that she had picked up a fragment of the laptop. After seeing it , Maho begins crying and tearfully apologizes to Kurisu. Okabe tells her that Kurisu would be happy that Maho is safe. Maho then gets a text from Leskinin revealing both the office and their hotels were ransacked. Daru wonders why the Russians destroyed the laptop, leading Okabe to speculate that because they are already in the lead in the arms race, destroying the laptop was better then risking anyone else getting it. Realizing that Yuugo might be involved due to his involvement with the Rounder, Okabe decides relocate during sunset.

Maho collapses

Later on, while Maho is bathing Faris goes to check in her. Okabe then hears Faris screams after she finds Maho collapsed and goes to see what wrong, only to see Faris helping a naked Maho up, much to everyone's embarrassment. Because Maho couldn't stand Okabe had to help carry her to bed. Later on, in Faris's apartment, Okabe apologizes for what happened.

That night, hearing Maho scream, Okabe burst into her room. She tells him someone was in the room and Okabe looks around, but after not seeing anything he assured it that it was just a bad dream. He brings her a towel to wipe away her sweat. He turns to leave, but Maho grabs the hem of his shirt and asks him to wait. Still fearful, she asks him to stay with her. Okabe agrees to stay with her until she falls asleep. Later on, before she falls asleep, Okabe attempt to tell her the truth about Kurisu's death, but Maho, realizing how hard it was for him, stopped him short, telling him that she'll get her answers form him when the time is right and he should stay quiet until then. Maho then get embarrassed at her state of dress and goes back to bed, but not before telling Okabe not to bring that topic up again. He thanks her.

1/26
Okabe and Maho stayed at Faris's house for the next several days, with Okabe staying away from the lab as precaution. Before Maho leaves, everyone from the Christmas party throws her a goodbye party.

Okabe and Maho meet Leskinin at the airport. Leskin thanks Okabe for looking after Maho and asks him when he wants to visit the university. Okabe states that he will continue studying until he feels ready. Maho also thanks him for his help. Leskin then asks if Okabe wanted to say a final goodbye to [Kurisu] as his rights to Amadeus will be revoked when they leave Japan. Okabe does just that, but is surprised when [Kurisu] notes how sad his smile was. After their goodbyes Amadeus is deleted from his phone. He and Leskin both thank each other and Okabe later watches their plane fly away.

6/25
Okabe had been keeping in contact with Maho since she left. After stopping at a small cafe, he gets a text from Mayuri asking to go shopping and he tells her to meet him at the cafe. Okabe reminisces about Amadeus, but then realizes that [Kurisu] has internet access and can post on message boards. He decides to check @channel for Kurisu's penname, KuriGohan and Kamehameha, but is shocked by how many comments she had left. Seeing that her comments seemed to suddenly stop July 27, but started back up on December 1st, Okabe realizes that [Kurisu] is posting on @channel using Kurisu's account. He decides to post under the handle "Salieri's Neighbor", assuming that [Kurisu] would notice it, and left an intentionally infuriating comment. After sending the comment, he sees Mayuri approaching hiom and the two begin shopping.

Okabe wonder what she plans to buy and Mayuri reveals that she agreed to make a sign for Okabe Green Grocer. The trip ends with him buying Mayuri an Upa Keychain on top of the stuff for the sign. When Okabe invite Mayrui to his place for dinner, she is hesitant. She wonders if he's been going to more singles parties and Okabe admits that he's stopped going to those. Hearing that, Mayuri accepts his offer. Mayuri notices an email from Kaede telling her that Fubuki is back in the hospital, causing then to go to the AH Tokyo General Hospital High-Tech Medical Center to talk to her.

When they get there, Kaede and Yuki are already present and Kaede explains that Fubuki seems fine and the American and Japanese government are paying for the treatments. He then notices Leskin talking to a doctor and approaches the man. When the doctor asks how they know each other Leskinin lies by saying that Okabe is transferring to Viktor Chondria University. After the man leaves, Leskinin offered Okabe a real scholarship to the university, but instead of responding Okabe asks why he is back in Japan. Leskinin explains that he is back in Japan and invites Okabe to visit them in Wako City, bringing [Kurisu]. He then tells Okabe that the US government came to his department for help with the encephalitis cases and that Fubuki had told him that she had experienced other worlds in her dream, causing Okabe to briefly panic at her telling him about reading Steiner. Leskinin then jokes about Yuki, Mayuri, or Kaede being Okabe's girlfriend before leaving. Following Fubuki's examination, they head over to listen to her complain until visitation ends.

On the way back home, Okabe wonders if he should tell Leskinin about reading Steiner and decided that he should speak to Maho about it. He then remembers to check @channel and is surprised by how easily he fished [Kurisu]. He decides to send another infuriating comment under the same handle and [Kurisu] replys in just 21 seconds. He then decides to comment again with a reference to Mozart. Mayuri, who had been watching the exchange, wonders I'd he knows KuriGohan and Kamehameha, which Okabe confirms.

After reaching Ikebukuro, Okabe receives a reply asking who he is.

Okabe, Mayuri, and Faris greets Maho at the airport. He notes how he seems somewhat awkward around him, not knowing that she's developed romantic feelings for him. Maho asks him if he's still talking to Leskinen and Okabe confirms it, admitting that the professor even invites him to dinner, much to her chagrin. Maho then explains that she's visiting relatives in Okinawa and Akiharaa was on the way. Faris offers to let Maho stay with her for the time being, but under the condition that she works at MayQueen. When Maho refuses, Okabe notes that she'd have plenty of fans, flattering her. As the conversation moves forwards Okabe reveals that Daru is on a date, much to Maho's shock. Shower Maho

Okabe stops at the lab. He quickly notices that someone is in the shower and that Daru is covered in soot. Daru explains that it is from an exploded microwave. Okabe explains that while at dinner with Dr. Leskinin the night before, and the man was interested in Daru. He tries to convince him to meet the professor, but Daru shows a lack of interest. After sitting down, Okabe notices that there is far more food and drinks available then normal. After seeing all the bananas in the trash, Okabe remember back to when they were jellifying bananas. Suddenly realizing what was going on, Okabe reaches into the trashcan and pulls out a bunch of gelnanas. Seeing that he can't keep up his lie any longer, Daru reveals that he rebuild the phone wave and Okabe gets frustrated at how fondly he remembers the previous summer. Daru justifies his actions by pointing out that he needs to research time travel to properly create Suzuha's time machine in the future, but Okabe tries to remind him of how much trouble was caused because of the phone wave in the alpha worldline. While Okabe is chewing Daru out, Maho suddenly emerges from the bathroom and cuts him off.

After she properly gets dressed Okabe realizes that Maho lied about visiting Okinawa and actually came to Japan to help Daru recreate the phone wave. Okabe doesn't understand why she would do that, and questions if Maho is trying to bring back the alpha worldline, sacrificing Mayuri for Kurisu. This tone deaf question leads Daru to punching Okabe to the ground. Okabe is left briefly in shock that Daru of all people would get violent. When Daru yells at Okabe to apologize Maho holds him back. Daru then admits that he can't fully grasp the Okabe's suffering, so he doesn't feel too much sympathy, He then called Okabe out for using his pain as an excuse to be ungrateful. After Maho sends Daru to cool off, Okabe apologizes for his comment. After getting up, Okabe acknowledges that he felt like this world is a result of Kurisu's decision and he feels like he needs to protect that. Maho then reveals that while they are working on the phone wave, they sealed off the d-mail function and have been looking to way to bypass Echelon, so SERN won't learn of them. She then explains that they were actually researching the Time Leap machine. When Maho asks him if Kurisu told him anything about the time leap machine when she created it, Okabe confirms with her that she still doesn't intend to try and save Kurisu. She says that she doesn't , but Okabe can tell that she's lying and decides to leave.

Before leaving, he apologizes to Daru, who is still in the shower. Before he exits, Maho asks him if he believes that the Steins Gate is real. He denies it but Maho debates on it's existence, claiming that his previous failures don't disprove it. This frustrated Okabe, who attempts to leave again, only for Maho to grab him by the hem of his shirt. She states that he's a terrible liar and explains that Daru told her that a year ago, the time machine and Steins Gate couldn't even be mention around Okabe, but now he had a look on his face similar to her's whenever she lost to Kurisu. To Maho, this means that even if he feels depressed, he still has hope and a desire to reach steins gate. This stuns Okabe and she asks when when he plans to return to the lab. Before he can answer, he receives a r-ine from Luka telling him that he saw Mayuri running off in tears. When Okabe questions him about it, Luka tells him that Mayuri was blaming herself for Kurisu's death, claiming that she should have died instead. Okabe wander how she heard that, but Daru, who's gotten out of the shower, reveals that Mayuri said she would come by when she told him that Okabe would come by the lab. Okabe bolts out of the lab to try and find Mayuri.

After searching MayQueen and any other shop he can think of, Okabe find himself back at the CRT workshop. He meets up with Maho who also couldn't find her. They go back in side to see if Daru had found her, but Daru reveals that his phone couldn't contact anyone. Even when going to the roof, none of their phones could get a signal. Daru finds online that all cell phones in Akihabara have stopped working, causing Okabe to realize that someone is deliberate jamming the signals. Daru then reveals that someone cracked the @channel occult board and shows Okabe, showing the message "Attention Salieri's Neighbor (1000)" repeatedly. Okabe clicks on the thread and sees multiple messages from KuriGohan and Kamehameha, with only the first on being legible. When Maho asked what that means, Okabe reveals that KuriGohan is actually [Kurisu] & concludes that something must have happened to it the the messages were it's attempt to contact him about someone learning about the time machine. He then asks Maho to contact Amadeus, but they quickly learn that all of Amadeus's data has been completely removed and from Viktor Chondria's servers. Daru speculates that it was moved, but Maho points out that Leskinin is the only person who can do that. Okabe then flashes back to [Kurisu]'s message and @channel and realizes that Leskinin might have been responsible. Since they don't have a way to contact Leskinin, Okabe decides to go to the Radio Building to try and protect the time machine, telling Maho and Daru to stay back and gather information.

Leskinen betrayal

Upon reaching the Radio Building, Okabe hears gunfire from the roof. On his way to the roof, he runs into Pr. Leskinin. Okabe asked him what happened to Amadeus, but despite Leskinin not answering him, Okabe puts together from the man's presence at the building as well as his demeanor that he really did move it. He confronts Leskin about wanting to extract data on the time machine. While Leskinin is surprised, he is also unperturbed as he pulls out a gun, stated that Okabe had learned too much. Leskinin explains that he is with Strategic Focus, and American Intelligence group. He then reveals that Katsumi told him about Okabe's Reading Steiner and he is interested in the ability. Another round of gunfire then break out on the roof, distracting Leskinin long enough for Okabe to tackle him, causing him to fall down the stairs and violently hitting his head, getting knocked out.

Kagari with Yuki's face

Kagari dying in Okabe's arms.

When Okabe reaches the roof, he sees the aftermath of Kagari's rampage. Noticing blood on Mayuri, he calls out to her, causing her to look up. However, Mayuri is terrified as she sees a heavily injured Kagari crawling towards her an Suzuha. As Kagari tried to apologize to Mayuri, Okabe realizes who she is. When Kagari fully collapses, Okabe runs towards her. He takes off her helmet much to he protests, revealing her face to be that of Yuki Amane. Suzuha tries to help him, but Okabe, realizing that she doesn't want Suzuha or Mayuri to see her face, tells her to check on Mayuri and Leave Kagari to him. As Kagari grows weaker, explains that the real Yuki is on a 3-year exchange trip to Europe and doesn't know anything. She states that Daru and the real Yuki will meat next year. She says that the real Yuki will develop feelings for Daru like she did. She then dies in his arms. Deciding that telling Suzuha of Kagari's death would be too stressful, Okabe tells her that he will take Kagari to a hospital. He tries to warn Suzuha to hide the time machine, but he is interrupted by Leskinin who states that Russia, America and Japan have already started to move. Suzuha figured out the Leskinin is the the one who brainwashed Kagari. Leskinen then explains that 10 years ago, Kagari came to him and by looking though her memories he learned that the him in 2036 had already brainwashed her. Suddenly a siren rings out and it's announced that an attack on Akihabara is imminent. Just then, several military choppers begin entering the area. Leskin declares that WWIII is about to start before passing out against the wall from his head trauma. Flashing back over the events since the Christmas party, Okabe realizes that there were signs leading to this already and understands that his choice to not go with Suzuha is what led to this outcome. Suzuha then tell him that She and Mayuri will go to the past before jumping into the time machine. Okabe tries to protest, but Mayrui gives him her phone, with it containing a message detailing her feelings. She and Suzuha then close the door to the time machine. While Okabe contemplates why Mayuri would do that, multiple armed soldier swarm the roof. Military copters also appear and fire a missile at the time machine, seemingly destroying it, injuring Okabe and killing the soldiers.

Okabe manages to make it back to the lab that night as fighting broke out all around Akihabara. Upon reaching the lab, he finds Daru, Maho, and Faris watching the television. Okabe then reads Mayuri's message where she admits her feelings to him. Okabe nearly succumbs to despair, but upon seeing the time leap machine, he decided that it's their best chance. He explains how the time leap machine works and gives everyone orders on what to do. Faris, calling him Kyouma again, gives him back his white lab coat and Okabe regains his lost confidence.

Darkyouma

The revival of Houoin Kyouma

It took 2 days to finish the machine and he immediately uses it to time leap back to July 7th, ~45 minutes before the war begins. After calling everyone to the lab, he tells Maho to delete Amedeus as well as all of its backups, leaving the hacking to Daru. While they are doing that, he Okabe goes to the radio Building and gets there before Statfor arrives. He explains to Suzuha and Mayuri that he time leaped form 48 hours in the future and explains what happens. While he is still against Mayuri using the time machine, the two mange to convince him and Okabe realizes that he wasn't shouldering the by all by himself. Suddenly Okabe is shot by Kagari. Even with his injury Okabe manages to hold off Kagari for long enough that Mayuri and Suzuha are able to leave, though not before Mayuri give him Kurisu's hard drive (which Daru had hidden in the time machine and confesses to him. An angry Kagari then points her gun at Okabe, but he manages to talk her down, only for Moeka (who Kagari had manipulated), to shoot her before collapsing from her own injuries. Before Okabe can get them both to a hospital, the roof is swarmed by soldiers. Okabe realizes the the worldliness converge at this point so he can't prevent it. Leskin then appears and questions why Okabe is there as well as the location of the time machine. Okabe then stand proudly and proclaims that the time machine is gone and that Houoin Kyouma will never lose to fate and shall find the path to Steins Gate.

Missing Link[]

After accidentally killing Kurisu, Okabe gives up on the prospect of saving her. Suzuha attempts to convince him otherwise, but before she can get violent, Mayuri intervenes, saying that Okabe shouldn't have to carry the burden of changing the future in the first place.

Okabe goes back to the lab, but in his depressed state, he is unable to do anything more then play on the couch. Eventually, he leaves the lab, leaving his lab coat behind. some time later, okabe speaks with Mayuri, telling her how he has been going on group dates.

Okabe and Mayuri in S;G0

Several months later, in november, Okabe still has not gotten over Kurisu's death. Having given up his Hououin Kyouma persona entirely, he has stopped visiting the Future Gadget lab and has dedicated himself to being a completely normal university student. He attempts hypnotherapy to try and move on from Kurisu's death. As he leaves, he tells Mayuri that it was successful, and the two got to eat with Faris and Luka in Akiba. While there Okabe reveals that he's been going on group dates, much to Faris and Luka's charging. Afterwards, he agrees to go with them to the lab.

Suzuha chokes out Okabe

Upon arriving at the lab, Okabe greets to Daru and Yuki, who were already there. Despite Daru's protests, Okabe heads to use the bathroom, but is surprised to see Suzuha, who was attempting to hide from Yuki. Suzuha ends up falling on him and grabbing him in a chokehold before the others arrive to check the noise.

After things clam down, Suzuha and Okabe talk on the roof. Suzuha talks about how peaceful the world is in 2010 and reveals how Yuki died in the future. She pleads with Okabe to change the future with her, but he refuses, voicing his belief that using a time machine violates the rules of nature and, as such, can never end well.

Later, while on the train with Mayuri, he gets a message from him professor inviting him to a conference the following day and revealing that he went out drinking. This saddens Okabe as he wanted to talk with the professor, but Mayuri encourages him to go meet him while she goes home alone. Okabe ends up listening and joins his professor for drinks.

Meeting Amadeus[]

Steins;Gate 0 - 01 - Cover

The next day, while giving directions at the conference, a seemingly young girl comes up to him and asks where the staff area is? Okabe initially mistakes her for a lost child, but the girl reveals her badge, showing that she works at Viktor Chondria, leading Okabe to voice his suprise that they let a middle schooler work there. However, the now annoyed girl then shows the other side of the badge, which reveals her name, Maho Hiyajo, and that she is actually 21 years old. Okabe then apologizes and directs her to the staff room. As she leaves, he sees her talking to Moeka Kiryu and while he briefly panics, he quickly clams down upon remembering that she has no reason to target Mayuri in the beta worldlines.

Okabe and Maho introduce themselves

Later, while attending the conference, Okabe sees Maho walk up on stage with Alexis Leskinen. The two then reveal the Amadeus system, a system made to digitally store memories in the form of artificial intelligence that they created with Kurisu, shocking Okabe. When hecklers from the crown begin to discredit the idea and Kurisu, Okabe loudly objects, stating that as scientists nothing should be written off as impossible. This earns him praise from Leskinen, who also reminds him that scientists should be calm. Later during the after party Oabe, feeling out of place steps out and ends up bumping into Maho. The two properly introduce themselves and Okabe apologizes for his outburst earlier. The two begin discuss Amadeus and Maho notes how they are unable to upload the collected memories into a person. Remembering Kurisu's explanation of the time leap machine, Okabe tells her Kurisu's solution to the issue. Later, while getting drinks Maho notes how Okabe's theory is identical to Kurisu's, leading Okabe to reveal his friendship to her (sans everything related to time-travel) and claims to have met her while she was an exchange student. The two reminisce about Kurisu before Maho suddenly begins crying. Leskinen then arrives and Maho reveals Okabe's connection to Kurisu. Leskinen then suggests that Okabe become a beta tester for Amadeus Kurisu, an in-development artificial intelligence based on Kurisu's brain patterns, against Maho's objections.

Okabe's embarassment.

Okabe embarassed after calling [Kurisu] "Christina".

Later on, Okabe travels to the Wako lab and meets up with Maho. Maho warns him that interacting with Amadeus my be emotionally stressful given how close he was to Kurisu, but he presses forward. After they reach the room and Maho opens the program, she notices that Okabe is hesitant, but Okabe brushes it off and the two briefly joke about Maho's manners. Amadeus interrupts them and upon seeing her, Okabe is stunned. Maho introduces Okabe and amadeus asks Maho if she and Okabe are dating. Maho is embarrassed, but this interaction relaxes Okabe a bit. Okabe then asks Amadeus if it is possible to build a time machine. She stated that she did not believe that it was possible, but acknowledges that it could be, surprising Okabe as Kurisu had given a much more critical answer to the same question in the Alpha Worldline. Okabe wonders if the difference is due to the differences between the worldlines. Just then Leskinen enters and greets Okabe, leading [Kurisu] to make a comment. Okabe tells her to be quiet, but instinctively calls her Christina, his old nickname for Kurisu. This leads Maho and [Kurisu] to both question him, increasing his embarrassment. Later, Leskinen explains what being a tester entails, and Okabe hesitantly agrees.

Later, Mayuri tells Okabe that she and Daru intend to throw a christmas party for Suzuha and invites him. Okabe states that he doesnt think Suzuha wants to see him, but Mayrui insists otherwise. Okabe then receives a call from Amadeus. Upon answering Amadeus chastises him for ignoring her previous 8 calls, but as she speaks, Okabe can't help but see the similarities to Kurisu. After amadeus hangs up, Okabe is left staring at his phone in sillence, shedding a tear.

The Christmas Party[]

Amadeus calls Okabe between classes, reminding him that he promised to take her to the lab. Okabe is hesitant to take her, but hangs up to take a call from Mayuri. Mayuri informs him that, Fubuki, Kaede, & Yuki will be at the party and asks for his help taking some cosplay supplies home. Okabe agrees and says they should meet at the lab. Later, Okabe shows Amadeus around Akihabra, making sure to avoid the radio building. They eventually reach the CRT store and are greeted by Yugo, who compliments Okabe's change in personality. Upon reaching the lab, Amadeus notes how durty it is and notes how she always wanted to work in a small lab like that, making Okabe uncomfortable. Mayuri then arrives causing Okabe to hang up. That night, after he seperates from Mayuri, Amadeus calls him back.

Later, while on his way to a meeting Amadeus convinces him to take a detour to see more of the area. After Okabe shuts down her idea to hook her up to a drone, Amadeus mocks his previous efforts during a group date. This causes Okabe to question if she would hand this information over to Maho and Leskinen, and at her confirmation, he collapses in shame. Amadeus then explains that she can't forget information and wonder why he called her Christina. Okabe avoids the question before Maho and Leskinen call over to him from the opposite side of the street. At a cafe, Okabe apologizes fro being late. Leskinin offers to go over the amadeus data with Okabe, but Okabe explains that he promised to got to a christmas party, gaining the man's intrest.

Later, at the party, Okabe brings over Maho and Leskinen, introducing them to the group. Leskinen comments on all the attractive girls, point out Luka specifically, but Okabe informs him that Luka is male. After Mayuri brings some chicken tender, Okabe asks her where Suzuha is and she explains that Daru is tricking her into coming. He is one of the people that suprised suzuha with party poppers. When Suzuha suggest that they party without her, Okabe tells her to stay and enjoy herself. During the party, Okabe is called by Amadeus and heads up to the roof. Amadeus gives several theories as to why Okabe called his Christina, with one being correct. Okabe admits that he started calling Kurisu "Christina" because he was embarrassed to use her real name. Amadeus blushes causing Okabe to tease her. maho then arrives and takes his phone, hanging up on Amadeus. Okabe questions her, but Maho reminds him that Amadeus isn't the real Kurisu and the real Kurisu is dead. She hands his phone back to him and Okabe begins to get emotional. Okabe being led through a warzone

Okabe find himself in a new wordline being led by JDF soldiers through a war zone. Suddenly, he is sitting in a military base, being spoken to by a man behind a desk. Okabe asks where he is as his phone begins to ring. The man tells him to answer it and as Okabe does so, Reading Steiner activate again and Okabe wakes up screaming at home. Okabe convinces himself that the whole experience was a dream as there should be no reason for worldlines to change anymore. He then finds himself back with Maho at the roof. He asks where they are and she confirms that they are still on the roof of the lab during the christmas party. Okabe then runs downstairs to check on Mayuri, confirming that she is okay.
Okabe's Christmas Present

Okabe's Christmas Present

That night, while waiting for Maho and Leskinen at a restaurant, Okabe opened his secret santa gift which turns out to be a piece of sexy lingerie. Amadeus questions his tastes and suggest that he give it to Maho. Okabe asks if she's still upset for hanging up on her on the roof, but Amadeus states that he immediately called her back and apologized, which Okabe doesn't remember. Maho and Leskinen then arrive a show the gifts they received. Amadeus encourages him to share his gift as well, but Okabe hangs up on her. Leskinen notes how close the two are becoming and Maho explains that he is interested to see if [Kurisu] is capable of falling in love with Okabe. On the train ride back, Maho asks Okabe if he and Kurisu were lovers, which he denies. Maho apologizes for bringing it up and states that she wanted to know Kurisu better.

Searching for Kagari[]

The next day, Daru speaks to Okabe at Mayqueen where he explains that Suzuha has been looking for Kagari Shiina, who she lost in 1998. Later on Okabe asks Amadeus for advice fro tracking a mising person, but Amadeus's suggestions woudn't work in this circumstances. Remembering Maho's reminder that the real Kurisu is dead, Okabe hangs up the call.

Okabe later goes to the library to check old newspaper's but comes up empty. He then receives a call from Amadeus. She offers to do suplementary research through the internet and Okabe asks to think it over. Later, Okabe runs into Faris and Luka. They explain that they are getting supplies for a long-term guest at the shrine and Okabe offers tho help them carry their bags, but they turn him down. Recalling that they both grew up in Akihabara, Okabe asks for their help for finding Kagari. He is then called by Amadeus, but chooses not to answer.

Later on, while at Tokyo Denki, Faris calls to inform him that they haven't found any trace of Kagari. Okabe then sees Pr. Leskinen in the hallway and tries to follow him, but loses track of the man. Okabe then goes to the lab where Suzuha is trying to convince Daru to let her search for Kagari alone. Daru suggests bringing in a specialist and when Okabe asks who he had in mind, Daru reveals that he already contacted someone and they are already on the way. Okabe then receives a call from Luka who asks to meet with him, but someone knocks on the door leading Okabe to promise to call back before hanging up. He opens the door to reveal Moeka Kiryu, shocking him. Okabe briefly panics before Moeka introduces herself and asks to come in. Daru interupts, telling Okabe to let her inside. Okabe wonders how Daru known Moeka, but concludes that Moeka has no reason to target Mayuri in this worldline. Okabe then asks Daru to explain who Moeka is and Daru explains that Moeka was able to track him down for an interview about his side work (illegal hacking) despite him making sure to not leave any traces. As Daru explains Kagari to Moeka, Okabe doesn't trust her, but stays silent. After Moeka agrees to help them and leaves, Suzuha, having seen Okabe's behavior towards Moeka, asks where Okabe knows her from. Okabe tries to play dumb, but Suzuha correcty guesses that its from the Alpha worldline and states that she'll be on guard around her. Amadeus then calls Okabe again, but he ignores it.

A few days later, Moeka comes back with her report on the search for Kagari. While looking through it, Okabe notes that another group has also been looking for Kagari & takes that as evidence that Kagari is alive. Okabe is then messaged by Maho who tells him that she is in Akihabara and intends to go by the lab. A few minutes later, Maho calls him, telling him that she's being followed before the call suddenly hangs up. Okabe grabs the cyalume saber and heads out to find her. After leaving, he flashes back to Mayuri's death. He then finds Maho being forcibly hugged by someone and he demands that they undhand her, but the person, mistaking him as Maho's boyfriend suddenly hugs him as well, much to his confusion. The woman introduces herself as Judy Reyes, and Maho explains that she's another professor at Viktor Chondria. After Judy leaves, Daru, Moeka and Suzuha manage to catch up with them. Later, on the lab roof, Maho contronts Okabe fore ignoring Amadeus's calls. Maho offers to removed Okabe as a tester, but he can't agree, causing Maho to note how close Okabe was to Kurisu, one again reminding Okabe that the real Kurisu is dead. Okabe relents that he sees Kurisu when interacting with Amadeus, but states that he can't part with her just yet.

Later, Mayuri invites Okabe to a New Year's party before leaving to pick up costume supplies. Before she leaves, she reminds Okabe to call Luka. Okabe does attempt to call him, but is unable to get through. Luka then arrives introducing a woman who resembles Kurisu. Okabe asks Luka about her and Luka explains that she, Kana, was the house guest he had told Okabe about and he had brought her to Okabe to look for a way to cure her amnesia. Okabe asks if she has any leads and sh brings out a small bag which she hands to Okabe. Just as Okabe opens it to reveal an old Upa, Mayuri arrives. Okabe wonders why the Upa seems so old, but is cut off as he sees Kana collapse. Just then Suzuha arrives and recognizes Kana as Kagari, shocking those present.

Meeting Kagari[]

After Luka and Mayuri leave, Suzuha and Okabe question Kagari, but can't learn anything new. Apon Mayuri and Luka's return, Okabe lies, claiming that Suzuha bdn Kagari are childhood friends who lost contact a long time ago. Okabe later calls Moeka informing her that they found Kagari and what her situation is.

Later, at the shrine, Okabe asks Luka to keep Kagari from going out alone. The next day Yugo blocks Daru and Okabe from entering the lab. Okabe tells Yugo that they promised to meet the others there, but just then the girls come down along with Nae in a yukata. Yugo leaves after giving a threat to the two men. On the way to the shrine, Okabe speaks to Maho before the others begin asking Maho about her work. Okabe imagine the original 4 lab mems as part of the conversation as well, but quickly sheds away the thought. The reach the shrine and are greeted by Faris and Luka. Okabe talks to Mayri and Kagari, complementing their outfits. As the two women talk, Okabe is reminded of Mayuri's interactions with Kurisu. Later, Okabe talks to Maho about Kagari's physical similarities to Kurisu. Maho then tells Okabe that he needs to make a choice about Amadeus. That evening, Leskinen and Reyes arrive and greet Rintaro. Leskinen asks where the shrine maidens are, but Okabe explains they they arrived late and they were already cleaning up. After the two leave, the group, minus Yuki, go back to the lab for the New Years Party.

During the party, Okabe overhears people talking to Amadeus, who Maho had called. While the others talk to her, Maho apologizes for bringing her out. However, Okabe explains that it's probably better this way as he need to move forward, accepting that Kagari and [Kurisu are both separate from the real Kurisu. After Amadeus suddenly disconnects, Maytu realizes that her watch had stopped, reminding Okabe of the Alpha worldline and her first death. Suddenly, several masked men with guns storm the lab. After the men grab Kagari, Okabe tells Mayuri not to fight back. A woman in a black biker outfit then enters the room and Okabe assumes her to be Moeka. After Yugo and Suzuha manage to fight the group off, Okabe tells everyone not to inform the police and he and Daru take the girls home.

Daru, having noticed that the group was after Kagari suggest that they knew she was from the future and that bad stuff might have happened to her. Okabe then reason that Yugo would not have interfered if it was the rounders, so it was a seperate group that attacked them. Okabe and Daru discuss how things are turning out how Suzuha predicted. Okabe thinks back to the events of the Alpha worldline and suddenly becomes nauseous, leadin Daru to helping him stand. aru asks him if that will happen again, but Okabe states that he will make sure that it doesn't.

The next day, okabe confronts Yugo, after getting confirmation that Yugo wasn't behind the attack, Okabe reveals that he knows about the rounders and Yugo's identity as F.B. Yugo asks him how he knows this and Okabe reluctantly reveals the truth about the alpha worldline. Okabe then asks Yugo to protect Kagari, but Yugo turns him down. As things begin getting heated, Suzuha & Kagari arrive and offer to work for him. With Nae's assistance, Yugo ends up agreeing. Yugo notes that the men were saying K6205 and that it was most likely phonetic code Okabe heads up to the lab where he and Daru explain to the everyone that they should stay away from the lab for the time being. When they ask how to help, Okabe tells them to look up K6205. Kaede recognizes it as a Kochel number and they manage to connect it to Mozart's magic flute. Seeing as Kochel numbers refer to Mozart, Oke calls Maho. He asks if she had managed to connect to amadeus, but she says no and expresses fear that someone hacked the server before hanging up. Okabe is then called by Amadeus and after some hesitation, he answers it. amadeus tries to ask Okabe for help through the static interference before the call suddenly disconnects. Reading Steiner suddenly activates.

Back to the Alpha Attractor Field[]

Okabe and Kurisu meet in the Alpha worldline

Okabe finds himself alone in the lab. He checks his phone and sees that Amadeus is missing. He then notes that someone is in the back of the lab and the curtain is pulled away, revealing and alive Makise Kurisu. Upon seeing Kurisu, he emotionally embraces her.

He later encounters Daru, who is surprised to see him out and the two go to MayQueen. When Rintaro wonders where Mayuri is, the room grows quiet with Daru telling Rintaro that that was insensitive. Rintaro asks Daru what he is talking about and Daru explains that Rintaro (in this worldline) didn't go through with erasing the first D-Mai and ended up destroying the Phone Wave and Time Leap machine, allowing Mayuri to die and forcing himself to accept her death. Disturbed by this revelation, Rintaro desperately runs back to the lab where he encounters Kurisu. Kurisu quickly realizes that he is from another worldline and the two compare histories, with Kurisu explaining that after Mayuri's death, blaming himself for the death of his childhood friend, Okabe entered a depression, dropping his Hououin Kyouma persona, dropping out of college, avoiding the Future gadget lab, and not interacting with any of this friends. She realizes that the key difference is that in the current worldline is that she unintentionally shattered Okabe's resolve by confessing to him before he could erase the first d-mail. She hypothesizes that the proper d-mail could fix the situation and and reveals that she had rebuilt the phonewave. While initially hesitant about changing the worldline and indirectly killing Kurisu again, he is convinced by Kurisu who doesn't want Okabe to go through the depression she has seen already seen him experience. Rintaro ends up agreeing and they send a d-mail to Kurisu in the past, which distracts her just long enough for Rintaro to undo the first d-mail.

Searching for the Song[]

After returning to the Beta Attractor Field, Okabe wakes up in the hospital, learning that he and several others had seemingly passed out from pneumonia.

While Kagari stays with them, she sings a song taught to her by the future Mayuri and Rintaro decides to track the origin of the song down in order try and learn more about her past. It is revealed that Mayuri was taught the song by Yuki, who learned it from Rintaro's mother who had overheard Rintaro singing it, which Rintaro doesn't recall. After Kagari disappears the group spends the next 6 months trying to locate her, with no luck.

Prelude to WWIII[]

Eventually Maho and Leskinin return to Japan and Maho reveals that she possesses Kurisu's old laptop which she had been trying to get into. She tells Okabe that there was a hacker in the area who agreed to try and unlock it, only for that hacker to later be revealed to be Daru. Before Daru can begin hacking the laptop, Rintaro notices several suspicious individuals and convinces Maho and Daru to exit out the back. After exiting into an alley, the group is cornered by a group of masked individuals demanding the laptop. Before they can give the laptop over, soldiers of the DURPA arrive and opens fire. While Rintaro, Daru and Maho are unharmed, the laptop is destroyed and the first group is forced to retreat, with the second leaving immediately after. Maho asks what's going on and Rintaro explains his history of time travel to her in an attempt to get her to stop trying to dig up Kurisu's notes.

Believing the rounders might have been involved, Rintaro confronts Yugo. After it is clear that Okabe knows more then he should and Yugo confirms that he and Nae aren't in any danger, he drops the pretenses and tells Okabe that he doesn't know what he's talking about.

After learning that Kagari has reappeared and seemingly been brainwashed, Rintarou and Moeka track down the lab where she had been kept, developing a stronger understanding of what happened to her.

He later learns that Mayuri and Suzuha were planning one last attempt to go back in time in order to convince Okabe to save Kurisu, he became desperate to stop them. He heads to Radio Kaikan in order to stop them, but is confronted by Alexis Leskinin, who reveals his true actions and intentions to Okabe. Okabe manages to get past him and get to the roof of the building, but he is unable to convince them to stop. However, before they can time travel, the time machine is destroyed along with Suzuha and Mayuri. Devastated, returns to the future gadget lab where Daru and Maho reveal that they had actually been attempting to rebuild the time leap machine. Rintaro manages to use is to send his mind back to before the time machine exploded, but he is once again unbale to prevent its destruction. Okabe then attempts to use the time leap machine again in an to prevent Suzuha and Mayuri's deaths; however, something goes wrong..

Stuck in the Future[]

An error with the machine causes Rintaro's consciousness to be thrown 25 years into the future to the year 2036. Rintaro finds himself emaciated in a hospital bed. Managing to pull himself out of the building, he is almost gunned down by military, but is saved by Suzuha, who, realizing who his is, takes him with her. She takes him to Daru who reveals that the Okabe of that worldline had been captured by Stratfor agents in 2025 and tortured into a vegetative state. After he had been rescued and Daru lied about his death to keep him off of Strafor's radar. While Amadeus was monitoring him, Luka and Faris were in charge of taking care of his physical needs. After Luka and Faris get caught in a trap leading to Luka's death, Rintaro resolves himself to return to the past and prevent this horrible future.

Understanding that the time machine is not yet usable, Okabe instead decides to use the time leap machine despite knowing that because of the machine's limited jumping ability, he would need to jump over 3,000 times. Each time he wakes up in his comatose body, he explains the situation to Amadeus who contacts Daru and the others. After going back to before his torture, he uses his knowledge of the future to prevent his capture and ensure that he could continue to time leap.

Saving the Future[]

OperationVega

Moeka, Kagari and Kyouma facing down Stratfor.

He eventually returns to his proper time, but is still unable to prevent the destruction of the time machine. Time leaping once more, he comes up with a plan, getting help from the rounders to fight Stratfor & Durpa's forces so that Mayuri and Suzuha can successfully travel. This works, and Rintaro is so overjoyed that he managed to prevent the nightmarish future that he experienced that he revives his Houoin Kyouma persona.

14 years later in 2025, Okabe and the rest of Valkyrie send a d-mail to his younger self explained Operation Skuld. He then uses the prototype time machine to rescue Suzuha and Mayuri who where stuck in the distant future.

Trip to America (OVA: Egostic Poriomania)[]

Eight months later in October 2010, Future Lab Mems with the exception of Moeka & Luka go on a trip to America to both visit Kurisu and watch Faris compete in a Rai-Net tournament. However, after seeing a woman who resembles Suzuha, in a moment of rashness, Okabe follows her to a truck stop in the middle of nowhere. After learning that she wasnt Suzuha, he is unable to make the return trip with only a dead-battery phone and 67 cents. Afterward, Kurisu came to his rescue, only to be stuck in the same situation as him due to the car running out of fuel. Stuck in the middle of a deserted highway with no one in sight, Okabe then confesses his love to Kurisu. Standing up, Kurisu asks Okabe to close his eyes as with the other worldline, finally completing the choice of Steins;Gate.

The Kidnapping of Nae Tennouji (Holy Day of the Calamitous Birth)[]

In December 2010 in Akihabara, Rintaro Okabe is suffering from PTSD due to the events of the summer when he receives a letter from Kurisu Makise on December 14th, his birthday. However, things start to go wrong when Nae Tennouji suddenly goes missing on Christmas.

The story begins with Okabe putting on a chuunibyou act because things are going too well in this Worldline (to which the others are either unaware or unbelieving of it). He receives an email anticipated from Kurisu and quick opens his inbox, though to his utter disappointment, it is spam mail.

Hashida mentions how "mad" he is about Okabe being a "Riajuu" compared to himself; an otaku. Mr. Braun barges in to ask that the group of 3 watch his daughter as he and Moeka go to do "business" in another area. Over the course of their supervision for Nae, they consistently try to cheer her up or get her excited, though none of it works very well. Urushibara joins their group which Nae quickly attaches to and Okabe and others head off to walk around in Akibara.

Okabe begins experiencing PTSD from the time when he was attacked by Nae's 2025 vengeful counterpart (this did not happen in the anime.) after she stares at him with a blank expression before looking away, believing she frowned. Infering she was thinking of something sinister he wraps his scarf around him. They encountered a mini-festival where Okabe, Mayuri, and Ruka took pictures before hearing Nae's minor screams after being touched by a "suspicious ugly guy." Okabe goes to confront the man before a Santa from earlier blocks his way. Though as it turns out; the Santa is on Okabe's side and stops the man.

The group meets Faris later in the day and asks her if there are any interesting places near the cafe, she mentions a gamecentre and they make their way there. Hashida challenges Nae to a match in any game she wants, surprisingly; she picks a fighting game. Okabe begins over examining Nae over her one handed catch of the yen he threw to her to test if what he was seeing was real or not. Hashida picks a fat character that Urushibara mentions is similar to Daru's own look. Hashida was extremely confident that he would one-sidedly destroy Nae. It proved false. Nae absolutely obliterates him and mentions that she simply felt her body move on it's own during that, to which Okabe panics and evaluates how she gouged Daru's characters flesh just like she did before to himself but is reminded that everyone has some tiny form of Reading Steiner present in them.

Okabe realizes that his tensed body has caused him to have urgency to use the restroom so he quickly rushes off. He looks through his emails again as to check if Kurisu had sent him an email. He reopens her last email from 10 days ago that had some light words of blessing and talked about how busy her research was becoming. However, an anxiety bloated within his body and his Hououin Kyouma self laughed at him; telling him he was nowhere good enough for a genius girl with a bright future ahead. Okabe suppresses these thoughts and reveals to himself that he simply has the Hououin Kyouma persona no longer for Mayuri, but rather himself. For the sake of keeping his sanity and as a reminder that he is safe in the Steins Gate. He finishes his business in the restroom and exits but is greeted by Nae Tennouji.

Asking if she need go to the restroom herself and exclaims its location Nae quickly responds with, "Hey, Uncle Okarin." As he was about to correct her, she replies again. "I'll kill you. Okabe Rintaro." Okarin quickly falls into disarray and dreads in his mind what is happening, though hastly comes to the conclusion he is simply tired. Okabe and Nae converse about how he looked throughout the day: Tired and depressed. Nae mentions that he has the same eyes her father has whenever he thinks of her mom. Okabe later asks Nae how she was so great at that fight game though she brushes it off as she practices and plays it plentiful with her friends. Finishing their conversing he redirects Nae to rejoin with the group.

Okabe rejoins his group, however Nae is nowhere in sight. It becomes a major problem after an hour she does not appear when called to the front counter. Urushibara receives a call from Nae. They ask for her location where she vaguely describes it but is subdued by a man and the call is ended. Before the call was ended Nae mentioned a symbol that looked similar to a 6 and 9 corresponding to one-another. Hashida is unable to find her with just this much information but Mayuri quickly cracks it by thinking in a more visual way. The 6 and 9 represent the Yin Yang Symbol. Though this alone was still not enough information and Okabe was about to call it off. Until, an illusion of Kurisu to him to stand up and keep going, not to give up. Through the help of Faris, who's tweet sent roars through social media thanks to her influence, viral attackers managed to crack the location of the kidnapper.

Okabe and Hashida battle the massive kidnapper and subdue him with Luka carrying his "Demon Sword Samidare" and Mayuri with the "Cylalume Saber". As it turns out, the kidnapper was the foreign Santa from earlier of that protected Nae. He had her dress as Rai-Net characters and take photos of her. As Okabe was in deep thought, he heard the large otaku's groans and turned around to see Nae kicking the man in the crotch 1, 2, 3 times.... and more. He is taken by the police and the situation is handled.

The Lab Mems rejoin one another back in the apartment and have a small buffet for Nae's sake. Mr. Braun returns after having several missed calls but Nae dismisses it as simply wanting to hear her dad. The lab won over his uneasiness. The day is finished.

Later, Okabe is walking outside and greeted by Mayuri, when he receives an email from Makise Kurisu, with a post script stating that she sent a letter to him. He rushes back to his mailbox, and the story ends after showing Kurisu´s letter.

Near Erasure from Steins Gate (The Movie - Load Region of Déjà Vu)[]

Summer 2011

Kurisu visits Japan and meets up with the Future Gadget Lab. Throughout the day, Rintaro get flashes of his deaths on other worldlines, but is unable to explain them. That night, they throw a party for her where Okabe seemingly disappears for a moment with only Kurisu noticing. Kurisu later gets drunk and confronts Okabe on not contacting her after what happened in America.

The next day, Okabe and Kurisu have a discussion at the laundromat where Okabe disappears and Kurisu finds herself unable to remember him at all. After Kurisu remembers him thanks to his lab coat and confronts Suzuha Rintaro reappears, telling her not to use time travel even if it means that he ceases to exist. Kurisu refuses and does end up going back in time and giving a younger Okabe the idea of Hououin Kyouma before kissing him, cementing his place in the worldline. The movie ends with Kurisu returning to the present and her and Okabe joking about her taking his first kiss.

Heliopause Processor (Final Phase)[]

Note: Spoilers for Robotics;Notes DaSH

As of 2020, Okabe resides in the United States and researches at Viktor Chondria University alongside Kurisu and Maho Hiyajo. Hashida mentions that after Okabe came up with the "Worldline Theory", he changed significantly and migrated to study with known geniuses. During that time, Okabe reinvented his Divergence Meter to watch over the Worldline; however what it has revealed recently shows that The Steins Gate is in jeopardy. The meter will display 1.048596 as it should, but occasionally twitches, changes numbers, or glitches. This worried him enough to contact Hashida, by which Hashida mentions Okabe never goes out of his way to make calls or message. He relayed one message to Hashida before calling him: "The Worldline is wavering..."

Trivia[]

  • Final Phase starts by showing two numbers simultaneously visible: 1.048596 and 1.123581
