Katsumi Nakase (中瀬 克実, Nakase Katsumi), who goes by the cosplay name Fubuki, is a side character in Steins;Gate 0 who was first mentioned in Steins;Gate. She is a second year high school student, a cosplayer and a friend of Mayuri Shiina, Kaede Kurushima, and Yuki Amane. On at least one of the Alpha World Lines, she helps out at MayQueen+Nyan² as a waitress after Mayuri's death.
Appearance[]
She has short, light brown hair styled in a fringed bob hairstyle and light brown eyes. She typically wears a bright-yellow jacket with a black zigzag pattern on its sleeves over a beige hoodie which she seems to wear over a pink shirt. Fubuki thinks that she looks like a boy, and this bothers her.
Personality[]
Fubuki is described as boyish and athletic, but she also likes cute outfits and things. She acts flirty and overbearing around Mayuri (who she calls by her nickname Mayushii) as well as the other girls, but does not like being compared to Itaru Hashida and often calls him a pervert.[1] Fubuki is very brash and speaks her mind without filter, often before thinking about what she is saying. Due to this, she is not good at lying or keeping secrets. Like Mayuri, she is also an otaku and likes to watch anime and play video games. She also is very social and quick to make friends, as indicated by her befriending other patients while in the hospital.
Relationships[]
- Mayuri Shiina is one of Fubuki's cosplay friends, and they are both very close. Mayuri and Fubuki are described as "total opposites" appearance and personality-wise. Fubuki often likes to fluster and flirt with Mayuri.
- Yuki Amane is one of Fubuki's cosplay friends. Yuki visited Fubuki along with the other girls several times while she was staying in the hospital. Fubuki finds her features to be very beautiful. She sometimes takes cooking lessons from Amayuki alongside Mayuri and Kaede.
- Kaede Kurushima is also one of Fubuki's cosplay friends and seems to be Fubuki's closest friend alongside Mayuri. The two are often seen together, and have known each other for two years and Kaede often acts like Fubuki's older sister. During the brief reunion in the World War III wordline, the frightened Fubuki runs to Kaede first and grabs on to her "like a little kid". Kaede was also the first person to know when Fubuki was admitted to the hospital the second time. She, along with the other girls, often have to put up with Fubuki's "sexual harassment".
- What she thinks of Rintaro Okabe is not exactly clear. Once Okabe learns her real name, he calls her both Nakase-san and Fubuki interchangeably. Throughout the visual novel Steins;Gate 0, Fubuki makes several remarks that seem to indicate that she wants him and Mayuri to enter a relationship. When visiting Fubuki in the hospital, Okabe brings Mayuri along with him since he did not want Fubuki to "get the wrong idea", so it appears that their relationship is not very close. Fubuki herself also remarked while blushing that she did not expect Okabe to visit her but she was also glad to hear that he was doing okay after collapsing.
- Fubuki seems to be friends or close acquaintances with both Faris NyanNyan and Luka Urushibara who she met through Mayuri.
- Fubuki does not like Itaru Hashida, and finds issue with his many perverted remarks and habits. She hates to be compared to him and is initially upset when Mayuri asks Yuki about dating him.
Background[]
She met and became friends with Mayuri Shiina at an event, who would proceed to sew cosplay outfits for her. On one occasion, Fubuki cosplayed as a male character and received more attention from a female audience than a male one. In 2009, she cosplayed as Seira Orgel from Blood Tune (a fictional media franchise first mentioned in the visual novel Chaos;Head), which Mayuri thought looked really sexy. Fubuki has other friends outside of cosplaying at school, and is the only one without a boyfriend.

On August 13, on some Alpha World Lines, Mayuri meets up with Fubuki at a Starbucks to fix a loose thread on the costume Mayuri had sewn.
Steins;Gate 0 (visual novel)[]
Fubuki is one of five characters whose POV the player plays through. You play as Fubuki as she hangs out with Mayuri, Kaede, and Yuki in the chapter Closed Epigraph. Fubuki is one of several who contracts the new encephalitis disease, i.e. develops a higher degree of Reading Steiner. As a result of this, she begins to have flashbacks to Mayuri's many deaths in the Alpha Attractor Field and later of World War III occuring earlier on one of the Beta World Lines.
During the Future Gadget Laboratory's Christmas party, she and Rintaro Okabe both collapse as the world line changes to one where World War III has begun earlier than Suzuha Amane foretold and where the Soviet Union still exists. A man by the name of Shimoyama interrogates both her and Okabe, tricking both of them into revealing that they know of an alternate world line where the USSR had not fallen.
After the world line changes mysteriously once again, Okabe discovers that Fubuki is still hospitalized after collapsing from Reading Steiner's effect on her body, so he, Mayuri, and her friends go to visit her. While there, Okabe confides in Fubuki the secrets of Reading Steiner and world lines, which Professor Alexis Leskinen later learns from her. It is heavily implied that Professor Leskinen brainwashed Katsumi to obtain this information.

Trivia[]
- Due to her boyish appearance, Katsumi is better known for cosplaying male characters than female ones.
- When Okabe meets Fubuki and Kaede in Steins;Gate 0, he doesn't know which one is which, so Fubuki's name is shown as "Girl with short haircut".
- People often compare Fubuki to the character Chie Satonaka from the Persona games.
- According to Kaede, Fubuki was asked out on Christmas dates by multiple people, but she refused because they were all "younger girls".
- During the gift exchange at the Christmas party, Okabe gets Fubuki's gift, which is "baby doll lingerie". Fubuki seems excited and says that Mayuri can wear it for him. When Rintaro refuses, Fubuki (blushing) then suggests that he could wear it himself.
- In the World War III worldline, Fubuki apparently was wounded in the Great Bombing of Tokyo prior to her reuniting with Okabe.
- For a brief moment while visiting Fubuki in the hospital, Kaede thinks that Fubuki and Okabe are dating which they both vehemently deny.
- Whether Fubuki actually had Encephalitis is not confirmed. According to an early conversation with Kaede, she began having the worldline dreams in the summer, which would have been before the disease spread to Japan. Okabe also suspects that Fubuki is not sick and instead just has a strong Reading Steiner.

- The name Katsumi means "overcome" (克) (katsu) and "fruit, good result, truth" (実) (mi).
- Katsumi's surname Nakase means "middle" (中) (naka) and "swift current, rapids" (瀬) (se).
