“Upon the Interface of the Missing Link -Open the Missing Link- (境界面上のミッシングリンク -Open the Missing Link-, Kyōkai Menjō no Misshingu Rinku -Open the Missing Link-) is an alternative version of the episode 23 of the Steins;Gate anime which released on December 2, 2015. It serves as a prequel episode to the Steins;Gate 0 visual novel.

Synopsis[]

The main difference between this episode and the original episode 23 is that Rintaro Okabe does not open the Movie Mail from himself. Mayuri Shiina begs Suzuha Amane to stop relying on Okabe to prevent World War III. This Okabe eventually goes on to create Operation Skuld and the Movie Mail, helping Okabe from the original Steins;Gate thwart world line convergence and successfully avert both Kurisu Makise's death and World War III, thereby entering the Steins Gate World Line.

Important Terms[]

Term 1: The Third World War
The war fought in the Beta world line over Kurisu Makise's time travel thesis.
Term 2: Steins Gate
A world line that resides between the Alpha and Beta attractor fields. Because of this, it is exempt from events that occur in either field. Its divergence is known to be 1.048596%. Since it is not affected by either attractor fields, Mayuri and Kurisu do not die and neither SERN dystopia or WW3 happen.
Term 3: Serious Paradox
Suzuha Amane warns Okabe that if he sees his past self, he'll cause a major time paradox. This could be related to tearing the fabrics of time and space.
Term 4: Doctor Nakabachi
He is Kurisu Makise's father and is possibly the one who stabbed her in Episode 01. In previous episodes, it has been revealed by Kurisu that they have a horrible relationship due to her superior intelligence and his jealousy for her. He also stole the time machine paper that Kurisu wrote in the beginning, published it under his name only, and brought it to Russia where a race to create a time machine began.
